SESSIONS IS MOVING SHREWDLY ON THE FISA ABUSE INVESTIGATION
POwerline ^ | March 30,2018 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 04/01/2018 6:53:27 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Moreover, Sessions was, in fact, using Justice Department lawyers with prosecutorial power in connections with potential FISA and related abuses. Since November, John Huber, the U.S. Attorney for Utah, has been on the case. Trump apparently didn’t know this, but he should have. Sometimes it’s better to talk to the Attorney General than mindlessly to blast him on Twitter.

Huber was appointed by President Obama, but his name was submitted by Senators Hatch and Lee of Utah. Thus, his selection by Sessions seems like a shrewd move. As Obama’s nominee it will be difficult for critics plausibly to paint him as anti-Democrat. But as the favorite of Hatch and Lee, Republicans should be confident that he’s not in the Democrats’ pocket. Moreover, because Huber works out of Utah, it’s unlikely that he’s connected in any way with D.C. insiders such as James Comey and Andrew McCabe.

What about the decision to use a U.S. attorney rather than appoint a special counsel? This decision also seems sound, and not just because I don’t like special counsels. The combination of the IG and the USA should be able to accomplish as much as a special counsel would — and accomplish it faster and with less fanfare.

The absence of fanfare is an advantage because it makes it more difficult for Democrats and their media partners to push the idea that anyone is being persecuted. A Justice Department investigation headed by two Obama appointees is harder to shoot at than a special counsel. And, of course, nothing prevents Sessions from appointing a special counsel if changed circumstances militate in favor of doing so.

In sum, Sessions has handled this matter well, Trump’s foolish tweets notwithstanding.

That’s why he called him “Mr. Magoo”. It’s really 10-D chess or something. Just how much Oxy does one need to take to make that sound rational? /rhet

He didn't call him "Mr. Magoo". There was a report in a left leaning newspaper based on a anonymous source that he called him "Mr. Magoo". Here's the CNN report:

The Post, citing people to whom Trump has spoken, said the President has complained about Sessions not defending him and not being loyal enough, comparing Sessions unfavorably with lawyers who have worked for him personally, and had called Sessions "Mr. Magoo."

People whom "Trump has spoken" to could be literally ANYONE. Two leftists that Trump "spoke" to could have colluded and SAID that Trump called Sessions Mr. Magoo. The point is that this is fake news designed to divide the opposition to the left.

When you cite leftist news as reality you're carrying their water.

While I’m totally convinced that Trump directs the media with masterful genius, I’m still NOT convinced that Sessions is accomplishing anything other than delay.

People seem to be missing a first principle:
No decent person would accept a job from Obama.
If a person worked for Obama, if he accepted an appointment from Obama, that person is a scumbag, in saecula saeculorum.

I'm sorry, but that is simply absurd. If you were right, the entire government - civilian and military - would have been surrendered almost overnight as the good people refused all promotions and new assignments. Admiral Rogers would not have been in position to warn President-elect Trump that his NSA had been ordered to eavesdrop on him.

In the specific case of USA Huber, you have an experienced prosecutor with a demonstrated record as a successful Assistant U.S. Attorney prior to his nomination by President Obama (as recommended by Sens. Hatch and Lee). I doubt that Utah was seen as a high-stakes battlefield to the Obama administration, so it makes sense that he took their recommendation.

I hope so, but I don’t like the risk profile here. Don’t trust Sessions, don’t trust Rosenstein.

More Gov’t employees should have resigned rather than follow 0bama.

They are complicit in turning the US into Venezuela.

Why wouldn’t AG Sessions quietly share that info with Congress to avoid them clouding his actions?

Perhaps because nothing can be "quietly shared" with Congress, which is riddled with traitors and spies and which leaks like a sieve.

Sadly, the prosecutions have to take place where the crimes were committed.

It’s going to be very messy and complicated with so much parallel activity.

As a US Attorney, AG Sessions was known to be very slow and methodical which is exactly what you want for this mess. There is a lot to unsnaggle and will require numerous separate trials on the same sets of facts.

Of course, I could be wrong and the Sessions haters could all be right. But, logic dictates that whatever he’s doing has got to be done with extraordinary secrecy and skill.

A US Attorney who beyond ‘inquiries’ in cases like this uses a grand jury. Grand jury witnesses are not bound to secrecy like others involved in GJs. GJ witnesses being quizzed about politically-charged subjects are going to talk about it. Once a witness talks about it, there are ways to surmise what and who the GJ is investigating. No ‘leaks’ really required, although they seem almost automatic too.

I think Sessions could be moving the ball downfield finally.

Sessions deserved the boos for fumbling and throwing interceptions early on.

The booing has stopped, but the applause and cheers are being held back.

If real results are seen, applause and cheers will be in order.

For now, all is quiet in the stands.

Had Trump taken Never Trump Mike Lee’s “recommendation” that he withdraw from the race Hillary would be POTUS and Gorsuch would not be on the SCOTUS.

“Why wouldn’t AG Sessions quietly share that info with Congress to avoid them clouding his actions?”

To share information with congress is to share it with everyone from Michael Moore to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.
