no American citizen should ever be deprived of his or her vote for “incompetence’

after all, this the prevailing condition of the American electorate

just look at so many of the fascists and wanna-be Nazis and idiots and crooks and corruptoids and traitors and thieves that get elected!

My Aunt is in a nursing home with dementia. Her Medicaid renewal packet came here and included a voter registration card. Now the renewal packet goes to the nursing home.

I bet they get a voter registration for every patient on Medicaid.

I’ve heard people on our side like James woods, Red-eye radio etc, people that should know better, talking about our sacred ‘right to vote’ . As if we were a democracy or something.

There is no Constitutional Right to vote. The states can make whatever restrictions they want save race, sex and age.

Absolutely, that
s a concern.

When they start labeling people who disagree with them as *mentally incompetent*, and I don’t see us from from that.

After all, they think that anyone in their right minds would never disagree with them.

That sort of situation is not so farfetched, he said. A congressional race in Pennsylvania this month was decided by around 600 votes. “Imagine if it became known that all the residents of a nursing home in the district voted in the election,” he said, “and many of them were so impaired that they didn’t know what the election was about or didn’t know what filling in a bubble on a form was.”

That stuff goes on here in Maryland. It is a big Democrat scam, in which the board of elections in one or more counties is run by majority Democrats. The rules call for one Democrat and one Republican to go to nursing homes with absentee ballots; but in practice, the Democrats get friends of theirs to register Republican so they can get in on the paychecks and voting scam.

“What should we require as a minimal standard?” he said. “There is not a clear answer.”

There is a very simple answer. The entry threshold for voting must be “independence” and the ability to pay taxes. Minor children are generally not given the right to vote because they by definition are living off someone else, and lack the life experience and intellectual skills to make decisions informed by foresight (”like taking candy from a baby” isn’t a folk saying for nothing). Those who are dependent on others, for their food and shelter, major life decisions, everything, should not be voting, nor should those mentally incapable of making prudent decisions.

Anyone allowed to elect representatives to legislative and executive offices must be exposed to suffering the effects of taxation, by being subject themselves to the taxes levied by such representatives. This check and balance is a disincentive to overtaxing, overspending, and borrowing (You get what you pay for...). Letting non tax-payers vote guarantees bankruptcy and ruin.

Liberalism is a mental disorder so thus we have tens of millions of mentally ill people who vote. I find it pretty depressing.

Yes. Saw this ploy coming early 90s during so-called assault weapons ban.

On the flip side - over protection of the mentally ill from diagnosis/treatment causes a lot of today’s problems - if one really cna’t make certain decisions, do you really want them voting? Hint, the Dems already bus a lot of them to the polls....

I have OCD, meaning yes, I’m mentally ill.

The mentally ill who most concern me will never admit to their illness; they truly believe that the rest of us are nuts and out to get them. You have a condition; they have (and are) a problem.

I obviously need to grammar police myself here. What I meant to say in the reply was:

Yes, I agree with you, but only if the mental illness is unmanageable or there is a conservatorship issue.
