Trump won't add diGenova and Toensing to his legal team
Axios ^ | 3/25/18 | Shane Savitsky

Posted on 03/25/2018 8:25:30 AM PDT by DoodleDawg

President Trump is not adding Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing to his legal team for the Russia investigation, per the New York Times. Conflicts of interest will ultimately prevent the married team from representing Trump — just days after diGenova's addition was announced last week — though another of Trump's lawyers, Jay Sekulow, said they will work for the president on "other legal matters."

Why it matters: Trump's personal legal team is in a state of flux after its leader, John Dowd, resigned last week. And diGenova and Toensing's conflicts come just days after GOP superstar lawyer Theodore Olson rejected an offer to join the Trump team — potentially prompting Trump's tweets this morning insisting that "many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russia case."

It's important that the President have complete trust and confidence in his legal team. If there were conflicts of interest or if the chemistry isn't there then as Trump said there are a lot of other lawyers out there who would love to work for him.

It doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence that the POTUS would fire his attorneys without having a proper legal strategy in place to deal with Mueller. Trump’s being rolled by the Deep State and doesn’t seem to know how to respond.

If Trump doesn't agree with the proposed strategy then it's important to make a change to a team he does agree with.

I’ve been hoping to see diGenova as special counsel to investigate the special counsel (and all the other DOJ misconduct).

Maybe Trump’s saving him for that.

Of course. Just bad to fire your lawyers - and announce new ones - if that's not been fully thought through. Looks like amateur hour. You know who isn't making mistakes? Mueller and the deep state.

Then that's Trump's problem. I don't care if it looks like "amateur hour" to anyone else.

I suspect DiGenova is going to be working for Trump "on other matters" while advising him on this one. He just can't represent him openly in any legal proceedings.

My thought, exactly! Also, President Trump wouldn’t need more lawyers if the investigation is terminated because the prosecutors on it are, themselves, under investigation for corruption. Something Joe and Victoria have been mentioning for the past couple of months.

That’s TRUMP! AMATEUR HOUR!!! NOT A PROFESSIONAL POLITICIAN!! Exactly why we voted for him!

Did you see the reports that satellite images show the North Koreans are actually DISMANTLING their nuclear test facility? Now, that is amateur diplomacy in action.

This article gave me a good chuckle..

"Conflict of interest".. SERIOUSLY? Is that a rule that only Republicans are required to abide by?

McCabe and a HUGE Hillary PAYOFF to McCabe's wife meant for McCabe HIMSELF, Rosenstein, Mueller AND HIS BFF CORRUPT COMEY, Fusion GPS and Bruce Ohr and his wife.. Blah blah blah and so on and so forth.. TELL ME ABOUT "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" AGAIN?

WTF!

If the IG report implicates Rosenstein, given his approval of the Carter Page FISA warrant and Rosenstein’s other deep state connections, and Rosenstein has to step down, that really opens the way for diGenova to be appointed special counsel.

mmm...

Someone who has already pronounced the FBI guilty of criminal conspiracy is never even going to be proposed as SC, much less approved. And his law partner/wife represents a prosecution witness against the FBI.

Despite the President’s vitality at his age, septuagenarians are likely better background advisors than front line on action teams.

We need a special counsel to investigate why we don’t have a special council to investigate the special council.

What a pile of Bullshit!

They have Rosenstein, Mueller, and most of their team on corruption charges that just start with Uranium One.

Mueller actively participated in the unlawful incarceration and subsequent death of at least two innocent people that we know about. He, essentially, used the Justice System as a lethal weapon against an innocent citizen to protect a mobster. Also, protecting the mobster(s) makes him an accessory after the fact to murder.

“come just days after GOP superstar lawyer Theodore Olson rejected an offer to join the Trump team”

Trump should run as fast as he can away from Olsen.
