Here’s why:

Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), Pub. L. 107-40

The applicable text:

Section 1 – Short Title

This joint resolution may be cited as the ‘Authorization for Use of Military Force’.

Section 2 – Authorization For Use of United States Armed Forces

(a) IN GENERAL- That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

This authorization has NEVER been rescinded.

Business Insider has reported that the AUMF has been used to allow military action in Afghanistan, the Philippines, Georgia, Yemen, Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, and Somalia.

Source: Woody, Christopher. “Congress may repeal the post-9/11 act the US military used to justify the fight against ISIS”. Business Insider.

Building a wall or barrier is textbook combat engineer countermobility operation.

The courts won’t be able to interfere with national defense military operations - unless a judge wants to be charged with treason.

The Army Corps of Engineers builds stuff all the time.

This comes under the Constitutional *mandate* for the federal government to protect us from foreign invasion.

“Providing for the common defense” is the *only* mandate you will find in the Constitution.

The President alone has authority to conduct foreign policy and act as CIC.

The whole thing passes Constitutional muster easily. If we have an honest SCOTUS, it’s bulletproof,

Have been on the ALCAN just once, and could not help thinking of how the heck it could EVER have been built in such rugged country and so quickly.
God bless the men like your grandfather!

Exactly. The left will try to use the courts to block Trump at every turn, no matter where the money for the wall comes from. So, Trump is wise to name the military as the builders and press on. It also puts the lefties in the position of having to argue semi-against the military.

The President has every right to fortify an international border(We only have two of them) as he sees fit. This is not an act of war. Mexico can stuff it.

Combat engineers of the construction type (heavies) can build very quickly. I was the combat type (light, mostly infantry work) but did see their work and even helped them a little. If that’s the plan, it can go really fast where they do the work.

It is my understanding, though, that there will be no monster concrete wall across the whole border. There’s not enough concrete produced in the world for that, and it wouldn’t have the value per mile that we need.

The plan is to build what is needed on each part of the border, including high concrete walls in the areas with the most traffic. Areas that don’t need such a wall will get good fencing and other security enhancements.

It I’ll likely end up in front of SCOTUS. A first year law student can figure out it passes Constitutional muster without breaking a sweat.

The military will do it for far less than 25 mil.

“With all due respect to the President I will believe this when the engineers are deployed and the dirt begins to fly.” Yeah, we may see the Corp of Engineers involved in a regulatory and advisory role as it currently does for dams, levees, lakes, reservoirs, etc. but, we’re not going to see regular troops in the ground building the wall. However, this brings to mind another possibility; being a hunter and camper I’ve become aware of some of the great work performed by the CCC during the Great Depression. How about putting to work the career welfare kings and queens? Force them off the couch, inform them that continuation of their EBT cards, Section 8 HUD housing, etc, will be contingent on working. Personally, I’m thinking a one year tour down on the border working on The Wall would be healthy for most of these people, burn a bunch of lard off them, tune them up. I even envision a great reality show in the making, 😂.....

It is trial balloon. No one is reading the tweet that followed. Much can be done with the 1.6 billion. Words are wind, i’ll wait to see what happens.

Are you a follower or supporter at all? Who did you vote for?

I’m pretty disgusted by all the purse dogs yapping at the guy who was the one who actually beat Hillary and the swamp machine, something no one else could do. Where would we be if he hadn't? Yet it seems like none of you can ever find a good thing to say. Just a bunch of professional glass half empty moaners and groaners.

Cue "Man in the Arena"...

The Hungarians threw up a perfectly sufficient fence in now time at all using their military. We can do the same. Or at least move toowarssnstarting it and the inevitable shutdown by judges.

Hopefully he cancels the LCS program. It is the biggest waste of money the Navy has ever had. They continue to produce ships that cannot cross the ocean on their own, they need to be piggy-backed to their deployment in Singapore. They are also labeled as unsurvivable in a combat zone. Both LCS versions are crap.
