40 Dems voting for this bill. That tells you everything!

There is no time limit on absences.

In 1964, California Democrat Clair Engle, whose bout with brain cancer left him unable to speak, was wheeled into the Senate to vote for the Civil Rights Act. Engle pointed to his eye and tried to mouth “aye.”

Some senators have been away from the chamber for years. Karl Mundt, R-S.D., suffered a stroke in late 1969 and refused to resign and allow a replacement to be named. He held the seat until January 1973. So he was absent for more than 3 years.

>>For how long can a Senator be absent?

However long he/she wishes. Remember Rubio last term was absent for a large part because according to him, he found the Senate “boring”.

Then he was re-elected.

Probably because he didn’t want to give the military anything.

McConnell and Ryan have lied to America and committed treason.

How did that happen? Other budget bills had to go through a long hard fight to just get a slim majority. How was this budget so different?

Is this another nightmare? I feel like I did during the Obama era, another punch in the gut.

“Not Voting...... McCain.”

Interesting that Jeff Flake also voted no. My congressman Andy Biggs was also a no vote. Searching hard for a silver lining to the cloud today, this is the best I could find... neither of my senators nor my congressman voted for the spending bill.

Trump says he had to sign it because of military spending. Any reason to think this is not correct?

He should have vetoed it regardless and let the Repubs show their true colours. At least Trump would have done the right thing and the blame would be on the right heads. Everyone is ticked at Trump when the fault lies with the scoundrels that came up with this and voted “yes” in the senate and house.

This would have put the president in a better position for November and encouraged voters to elect someone who is going to fight by the president’s side.

imo, This WILL put the president in a better position and WILL encourage voters to elect those who are going to fight alongside the President instead of against him. The rep congressmen who voted yay, are counting on people blaming Trump today, on focusing on Trump as the reason it passed so they can be comfortable behind the smokescreen in their congresscritter-for-life positions. Don't let them get comfortable. Every 'yay' needs to have their toes held to the fire of public scrutiny.

What’s up with all the Demo nays? What’s not in it for them?

Too much military. Not enough socialism and abortion.

My pubbie congresswoman, Texas Representative Kay Granger (Conservative Review grade F) of course voted for this complete betrayal. We stopped voting for her a long time ago but she needs to be primaried so we can vote FOR someone.
