Trump signs $1.3 trillion spending bill despite veto threat on Twitter
Washington Post ^ | March 23, 2018 | John Wagner and Mike DeBonis

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

If Trump was going to sign it he should not have Tweeted about the veto. Makes him look stupid.

I have the understanding that the legislation sets out the maximum that can be spent for each division ....which to me means that he doesn’t have to spend the $$ allocated, just can’t take money from one division to put in another. Is that correct?

He said this won’t happen again. I believe him.

Really? LOL.

I'm his biggest fan, but he's full of sh!t on that one. He'll sign a pile of dog sh!t if that's what Congress puts in front of him.

The score: Democrats 5,397 (or something like that over the years), Republicans 0.

Agree 100%.

And “the wall” is quickly becoming a really unfunny punchline.

I think our congresscritters are tired of being congresscritters. Where is thei fight in them?

The only one I saw objecting to having less than 24 hours to read the bill was Rand Paul.

I’ll assume this is for two tactical goals:
1. Get the Left mad at Democrats for abandoning DACA
1b. Establish grounds for deporting upwards of a million illegal aliens
2. Signal an intent toward war with North Korea (between “sacrifice other goals to increase military funding” and “appointed national security advisor who advocates pre-emptive war with NK”).

I still have to assume Trump knows how this will play out, that he anticipated backlash from his own base.

We chose him, knowing he wasn’t “hard right” and that he’ll do strange things to reliably achieve big goals. Continue to stand with Trump (though do let him know you’re rather pissed about this).

Disagree, and clearly he’s not happy but he needed to get this done so he can get the military refurbished and steadied with regular funding.

The temporary funding resolutions were adding to the damage suffered by eight years of Obama. It was intolerable.

You can’t get everything when you have The Swamp against you. It will be different next year and he’ll have more political strength to push back against the Rats and feckless GOPe.

Why vote for Republicans..?

The are not supposed to hold the majority, this was a fluke. D.C. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party.

Correct. This country is well down the road on the way to Neo-Marxist Globalism.

That is the hard truth. He could have made a big show of rejecting it, only to have acceptance forced onto him in short order. There weren’t enough repub. who would stand with him on this. Yes, it is a disappointment, but let’s not forget, he will still have two years left to this term after this year ends.

And this is how Tip O’Neil screwed Reagan. The Rats are still going on about how Reagan “put us into debt”. Sometimes it is hard to be this old and still remember well.
