Boris Johnson likens Putin's 2018 World Cup to Hitler's 1936 Olympics

At a parliamentary committee meeting Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson agreed with a member of Parliament who said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would use the 2018 World Cup in Russia "like Hitler used the 1936 Olympics" to "gloss over the brutal regime for which he is responsible."

Yes, I think the comparison with 1936 is certainly right. I think it’s an emetic prospect, frankly, to think of Putin glorying in this sporting event. — British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson

I’m sure Putin is quite amused. Maybe he’ll invite Boris over for some tea to discuss things.

England has not won the World Cup since 1966. Perhaps they wish to avoid another failure this time around.

Putin has probably forgotten about that little Ukrainian Coup McCain pulled off while Russia was hosting the Olympics. Keep poking that bear.

If someone has to puke, I’d vote for Obama, not Putin.

I recently read Boris' Churchill biography. A very interesting (and flattering) take on Winnie.

I think the World Cup will be good for the *people* of Russia who get to show off their country and make new friends.

But yes, FIFA is enormously corruption ridden: run by Arab and Russian bribes/kickbacks. North Korean slaves on loan from Kim Jong Un built some of the flashy stadiums in Russia.

Putin truly amazes me in how he manages to corrupt and pollute just about everything he touches.

In the meantime, worth looking at:

Again, why has it taken 20 years to realize what sort of regime Putin reigns over? Britain seemed to have no comment on this during the Bush and Obama years.

What about the abusive regime Boris represents? Stops conservatives at the door. Knocks on doors of those who dare to oppose Islam. Sat by while 1000 girls were raped in Rotterdam.

Hardly. We should enact sanctions against Britain for the actions of Christopher Steele.

I’m more concerned about our FBI who used a campaign document, called it a dossier, then brought it to a secret court and lied to get a warrant that allowed them to spy on private American citizens.

This would be the same British government that banned several people from entering the country because it did not approve of their beliefs.

The UK has no moral standing to lecture Russia about freedom, free elections, the rule of law or anything else. Today the UK is an even more regimented society than Russia.

A society afraid of people who speak their minds has no future.
