Disarming willing and qualified teachers and other school staff is stupid.
There has been a lot of talk about arming teachers recently, but that's really never been the issue. The real issue is about disarming teachers who would like to be carrying.
Like any other controversial subject, any discussion of school safety must begin with some agreement on basic facts and mutual understanding of terms and definitions.
When gun owners and politicians talk about arming teachers, we are not talking about giving guns to people who would not be comfortable with them. Nor are we talking about teachers or other school staff racing to the sound of gunfire to stop an attack. What we're talking about is ending policies that disarm teachers who would prefer to be armed, and empowering them to take appropriate action if the need to do so were to arise. That means providing free possibly paid training, and some liability protections for school personnel who are qualified and volunteer for the program.
The Firearms Coalition opposes any proposal that would provide extra pay to school staff who choose to carry. We believe that it is a mistake to offer any incentive other than the desire to be able to protect innocent life if needed.
We believe that an armed staff member's first responsibility is to the children in their immediate care. If an armed teacher is in a classroom full of kids when an attack occurs

It was the federal laws imposed by the left that disarmed them in the first place.
The meme, “arming teachers” assumes that the government is the one who has the authority to arm people.
That is the opposite of reality, where it is the government who forcibly disarms people.
These sort of Owellian word games are the specialty of Progressives.
If only they could have a do-over, the six dead adults at Sandy Hook would likely rather have met Adam Lanza with a gun of their own.
Gun free zones are a major attraction for the shooters. Get rid of them and teachers can carry if they wish.
We need to end deadly Gun Free Zones and allow faculty, staff, AND parents with CCW to carry concealed. We all have a shared stake, parents more so than the school or the coward police that will show up after the fact.
This *never* gets brought up, even on OUR side of media yak.
Many teachers already have Concealed Carry Licenses. Among those, there are those who are proficient and would be great at learning tactical training along side local police departments.
Where is Dana Loesch? She should know this already and the NRA should say so.
So THANKS for posting.
When the question is asked to a typical liberal, "What would you do to protect YOUR children?", one obviously says, "Anything!". When told the PRICE of security with includes arming staff for protecting other children just the same at school one gets basically one answer,"No/never". This dead space thinking of a typical liberal is no different with the issue of abortion.
Willing teachers should have the right to protect themselves rather than being required to be like sheep to the slaughter.
A couple of days ago I saw the Dothan, Alabama police chief on TV saying how he opposed arming teachers.
His idea was that we should only trust highly trained police officers.
I immediately remembered just great the highly trained cops had performed at Columbine as well as the Broward County incident.
They basically acted with unusual cowardice then bullied the innocent students who finally made it out.

The NRA has "said so"....repeatedly. The media simply refuses to hear and certainly not report the truth.
There is risk in simply allowing teachers to be armed. They need FIREARMS TRAINING. Anyone can pull a trigger and make a gun go bang. I tell my students, shooting a pistol is simple, but its not easy. Hitting a designated target on a square range with no pressure is a challenge, much less under pressure. Furthermore, in a crisis situation, with LEO on the scene, armed teachers waving pistols may become the unintended victims of cops. Theres more, but you get the idea.
Not quite true.
In Oregon CHL holders can carry on school grounds. It is legal. A few years ago a woman teacher with a CHL wanted to carry in her class, but the school told her that because she was an employee she could not, even though any parent could have.
There was a lawsuit and the school won.
NRA ads dont run much in TEXAS. Havent heard a word about teachers with CCL.
Im glad youre hearing media report it.
Pay them a lot, like theyre security guards on top of being teachers? No.
Pay for the qualifications class. Pay for training on what should be expected of them. Pay them $50 or so a month for being available and complying with the extra rules.

There will be lots of volunteers.
Allow parents who can be legally armed to be armed in school. They are allowed nearly everywhere else.
It would complicate mass shooters planning immensely.
Schools could be fully protected within days or weeks at no big expense to schools, communities, state, or federal government.
Isn't it time to embrace community solutions, rather then tax money at solutions that will be overpriced and likely end up with more people fitting the role of coward cops we've seen recently.
Actually, I'm not seeing ads, but pretty much every political cartoon has had mention of it (of course negatively) for the last couple of weeks. Can you say "free advertising".
Also, pretty much every news commentary network show has had it as a topic (again negatively, of course). More free advertising.
