State Rep. Michelle DuBois (D-Plymouth) disagrees. She has been calling for the removal of a statehouse sign that reads "General Hooker Entrance" (so inscribed because it stands opposite a statue of General Hooker), which she described as an affront to "women's dignity."

I worked with a guy who was related to General Hooker, and shared the last name. At that time I was into the Civil War, and saw the statue of the General many times on my trips to Boston, and the State House to do research.

Hookers are called hooker because of Hooker

As I recall from a history class, General Hooker was one of Lincoln's very hesitant generals who would not go after the Army of Northern Virginia. General Hooker spent so much time encamped near Washington that his men regularly visited Washington ladies of the evening, who thereafter became known as "hookers".
