I visited there twice, first in the mid 1960s when it still nice and again on business about 12 years ago. Ugh, horrible place. I will never go back.
In 1951, I was 4-years old and my Dad was recalled to active duty with the Navy for the Korean War. He was stationed at Oakland Naval Air Station, now Oakland International, and we lived on Alameda Naval Air Station.

Visited once in 1975 for Chinese New Year. Aggressive panhandlers, poop and pee on the sidewalks, stink in the air.
Lovely place, great restaurants and galleries and I see it has only become worse.
