I remember back though when it was reported that McCabe threatened to bring down many more if he was to pay a personal price.

McCabe figures now his last remaining option is a book deal and trashing Trump 24x7. Most of the rest of the special class (Comey, Obama, etc) are keeping their mouths shut more or less (they still trash Trump's policies). But HIllary has already gone the trash Trump and book deal route.

Yep, the Departmental IG and the OPR are regularly responsible for “this attack on my credibility . . .” McCabe would have you disband those two functions in the FBI.

Finally got to read the article at the link, and found this quote very telling:

“Given the significance of the matter, um, uh, that we had to proceed quickly,” [FBI Deputy General Counsel Trisha] Anderson told investigators. “It was just too, too explosive for us to sit on.”

This tells me that they (the FBI) have, and would consider sitting on new investigation evidence to keep explosive information from coming out on the person(s) under investigation, especially if it meant it could harm them politically. We knew this was going on, and McCabe's keeping the new email find from Comey for a month is evidence that they do it, but Anderson admits it in her statement.
