Offer shorter prison sentences in plea deals. Decline certain classes of criminal charges. And explain, on the record, why taxpayers should fork over thousands of dollars per year to incarcerate people.
Those are some of the instructions that Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has outlined for the offices 300 prosecutors perhaps the boldest set of policies yet of his busy two-month tenure, and in line with his campaign promise to reduce the number of people behind bars. --SNIP-- The cost of imprisoning a criminal estimated by Krasners office to be at least $42,000 annually is roughly equivalent of the salary for a teacher, police officer, or other city employee, the memo says.

This progressive DA is the prerequisite for future increased crime rates in Philadelphia.
Exactly what happens in third world countries. They can’t afford to put them in jail and they cannot afford to have them lose. In this country prisoners used to work while they were in prison. It was not free room and board.
Black privilege
For many criminals, the cost of having them loose is many times that. How many robberies does a chronic criminal commit in order to keep himself in drug money?
A good idea would be to reduce the number of “victimless” crimes and then prosecute the rest with vigor. Putting people in prison for smoking pot is just stupid.
However, if you’re going to create a law, enforce the dam*ed thing or eliminate it. Letting things slide destroys respect for the law, resulting in more lawlessness, resulting in more incarcerations. Every guy in prison thought he wouldn’t get caught.
Well, if they don’t write crime reports, the crime rate will magically drop.
SUCCESS!
The San Francisco Police actually did that on orders from the Mayor who had promised to reduce crime in his campaign.
We think of em more as... guidelines!
Do the Crime and don’t worry there’ll be no Time
Didn't something similar happen with the Florida school shooter.
Hilarious!
Liberals who are not concerned about ballooning public costs are suddenly frugal misers when it comes to locking up criminals.
In Philadelphia, they’ve decided public safety isn’t the top priority. Oh well.
Remember, high crime under liberals isn’t a flaw. Its a feature.
Yep, soft on crime = more crime.
Punishment used to be much cheaper. Just give them 40 lashes and put them in the stocks for a couple of days.
And if they keep coming back, ship them to Australia.
Yeah. I hardly ever kill anybody. They have to really deserve it. Like that guy that wouldn’t get out of the passing lane on my way to work yesterday, may he RIP.
Locate prisons in remote areas where escape is almost impossible and where prisoners can be kept busy at hard labor.
Keep them breaking rocks, cutting fire roads and draining swamps instead of hanging around in prison gyms.
What ever happened to the Russian .223 bullets for 21 cents a pop?
Texas Dept Correction put a series of prisons in East Texas in the Trinity River bottoms. Great soil for growing croos, but if someone escaped, they would get lost in the bottoms, and when found beg to go back to the prison.
.22’s are cheaper, but you gotta use two. I spend way too much time worrying about the cost, though. Penny wise and dollar foolish, I guess.
