Ya know, I think it was in Germany that they retrofitted fast trains to existing track. One of the necessary features was to hydraulically tilt each car more vertical for certain stretches of track to avoid smacking into obstacles with minimal clearances.
Guess what happened when one car suffered a failure of the hydraulic kind?
