The fact is this was a lousy candidate and a lousy campaign.
this lousy candidate was good enough to win in 2010, 2012 (!), 2014, and 2016.
doesn’t seem very lousy to me.
Ideological purity doesn’t matter if the candidate loses. Must be some balance between that and the ability to campaign
