Unlike we here in the US, the term “Asians” is used differently, Orientals is what we would call Asians.

But, using “Pakis” or Pakistanis used to be more common before. Now the former is regarded on par with the so called n-word...
So even though you are somewhat right about the Asian/Oriental thing... Both can be referred to as Asians, but it used to be very common to use the main nationalities from the sub-continent - Indians and Pakistanis as the adjective of choice.
