MSNBC’s Velshi Patronizes Steel Worker: ‘You Don’t Want Your Son Being a Steel Worker I Assume’

MSNBC host Ali Velshi patronized a steel worker on his show Friday by making the assumption that he wouldn't want his son to become a steel worker.

Scott Sauritch, the president of United Steelworkers Union Local 2227, appeared on the show to discuss his support for President Donald Trump's newly announced tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum imports.

"So let me ask you this, Scott. You saw this trend in the 80s. You saw the imported steel was hurting the industry. I guess my question is for steel workers around America as I discussed with somebody earlier, a lot of this is technology, right?" Velshi asked. "It just takes fewer human labor hours to make a ton of steel. At some point doesn't it make more sense to start to transition. You don't want your son being a steel worker I assume."

Sauritch said his son actually just got hired by U.S. Steel "not too long ago," prompting Velshi to ask him whether this bothered him, citing "fewer" steel jobs.

"If a man wants to make a good living and a good wage and a steel good benefits, the opportunity arises. Now for a young man to come in and to have job security, this tariff that is put on across the board is going to help everyone out," Sauritch said.

He went on to defend the steel industry by saying the United States doesn't want bridges built from compromised steel from China.

"There's a difference between quality and junk," Sauritch said.

Sauritch was one of the steel workers invited to speak at the White House on Thursday about his support for Trump's tariffs. He told Trump and other reporters there about his father, Herman, a former worker in the steel industry, losing his job due to increased imports.

Well, Mr. Velshi, if he is happy and doing something productive and honorable, unlike reading fake news while trying to push a pathetically flawed simplistic and ignorant ideology, I am OK with whatever he chooses to do.

This is why Democrats lose elections.

They look down and condescend to blue collar workers.

And the fake news media? They report insider political baseball stuff normal Americans don’t care about.

They live in a bubble and every one else shares their hatred of Trump.

That’s not America. Even if Democrats should be loaded for bear to take PA-18 today.

If they don’t, bad news for them.

“compromised steel from China”

One time we were machining a piece of steel from an unknown source in China. You could clearly make out the outline of a wrench when we cut it open. On another was the impression of a bicycle sprocket. That was the shittiest steel I ever saw. Someone got taken to the cleaners on that deal.

What an arse.
Let’s see who’s more secure at 65, Ali. You with your fancy high cost living, or a steel worker with great benefits.

They look down and condescend to blue collar workers.

The basic premise of the Dems is to pander to special interest groups. In doing so they will eventually, as demonstrated here, come out as condescending.

The previously useful demographics, like blue collar workers are being pushed to the side in favor of the new groups, like LFBT and the radical left.

"It just takes fewer human labor hours to make a ton of steel. At some point doesn't it make more sense to start to transition. You don't want your son being a steel worker I assume."

This is BS. The factories in the USA closed down completely! They're gone which has NOTHING to do with automation.. The jobs went to the third world and if anything, off shoring slows technological advancement by the universal use of slave wage labor. Free Traitors™ are liars and deceivers.

About 25yrs ago Mexico melted down a bunch of X-ray machines complete with the source still inside. It was made into rebar and rod that was used to make patio furniture.

It was so hot it supposedly would render you sterile in minutes. If it weren’t for a load of rebar that set off radiation detectors when it entered the Nevada Test Site, it might have never been discovered.

Check the numbers, especially when you accuse someone else of "BS".

The USA is producing as much steel today as it did in Reagan's second term.

United States Steel Production, 1969-2018

It is true that the steel is not being produced in the gigantic, labor intensive mills built back when Taft was president. Those are gone, and are not coming back, ever.

I wonder Mr. Velshi feel about coal miners?

Oh, wait. I think I know:

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-fired plant they can, it's just that they will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

— Democrat Senator Barack Hussen Obama, January 2008

"We're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business."

— Democrat Presidential Candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, March 2016
