Donald Trump just Saved the U.S. 5G Industry from China
Gordon Chang | John Batchelor Show

Posted on 03/12/2018 6:53:09 PM PDT by muleskinner

Donald Trump, in only the 4th time in 70 years, disallowed the merger of Broadcom and QUALCOMM. Broadcom is the 5G leader out of Singapore with ties to Huawei, the giant Chinese electronics conglomerate that's also heavily tied to the PLA. The merger would have resulted in the dismantling of Qualcomm, with Broadcom and Huawei taking any advanced 5G technology and leaving the rest for scraps.

I don’t understand Broadcom. Broadcom was begun in the U.S. It incorporated in Singapore a few years ago but kept it’s operations based in California. Singapore was just a domicile address. Somewhere along the way they teamed up with another company but I don’t understand how it relates.

Just the other day Trump was announcing that Broadcom was moving it’s headquarters BACK to the U.S.

I work for Broadcom and it is a spin off from HP

Where does it mention that it is an HP spinoff? Broadcom

They were an outside vendor to us when I worked for HP 10-15 years ago.

The original INTENT of the CC was to remove substantive hindrances to commerce between states. This goes WAY beyond that.

Ya, my stock predictions rarely are correct. But I thought this one was a no brainer.

Broadcom was purchased by Avago a couple of years ago. Avago took the name Broadcom in the deal. Avago is the spin off of HP.

The Department of Commerce looks after trade, not the FCC

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations

Does seem to give him the authority to do this. True enough.

We'll hope for the best.

... “Just the other day Trump was announcing that Broadcom was moving it’s headquarters BACK to the U.S.” ...

The only reason for Broadcom to move back was because the 10 year tax-free status in Singapore is about to expire.

Correction...

The Congress shall have Power...To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations

That is NOT a power delegated to the executive branch. Only Congress has the constitutional authority to do this, NOT the President.

“Intel invests heavily in research in China and about 100 researchers – or 10% of the total number of researchers from Intel – are located in Beijing.[176]”

That does not include Chengdu, Shanghai or any of the dozen+ number of sites Intel has in China.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel

The process has accelerated since 2011 when the above was reported.

I have reference. I just left there.

This is 100% telecom, so the FCC is definitely an approver:

The Federal Government has full authority over trade.

The US Constitution:

“The Congress shall have power...To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;”

I’m not there yet. There was no one like the Great Communicator. But Trump definitely is second and he has definitely impressed me.
