When my sister Jenny went to Ireland chasing our roots she solved a family mistery. We had letters from a “Jenny” (early 1800) but legal papers named a Jean. The gentleman with our shared ancestors explained to her that Jenny was a nickname for Jean. They were one and the same. He also explained that the Gardeners did not work the soil but were Scotsmen who guarded the royals. (BIg strong men like our President Trump) Scot/Irish was the term Sis’s dark auburn hair, fair skin was typical of this group. The sandy/red hair more typical of her MIL whose parent were from Ireland
