We had this crap going on during the May Day "day without a mexican" a few years ago. Flyers all over the place and hundreds of student skipped class. About 5 participated in an organized protest. The rest were bragging about going up to the river for the day.
If students wanted the day off to go see President Trump give a speech, the schools would be on lockdown and any student that didn’t show up would be hunted down and suspended for skipping school.
