Zaya did something similar with it's once excellent "23" Rum. It used to be aged twenty three years, but now it's a "blend of 23 rums". Such a cheap trick, as if the awful taste of the latter (at the same price mind you) would not be detected immediately.

I hope they go out of business.

Yep...sounds similar.

JW changed due to some shortage in the 30 year barrel supply.

So they changed it to 18YO, increased the price, and kept the brand the same. BTW, the new stuff is NOT good. Nothing anywhere close to what was.

Kinda shady. I’ll try that other one you mentioned though...always looking for a good 30.

I think you are mixing Zaya and Ron Zacapa rums. Zaya has always been a 12 y.o. rum, but was made at the same Guatemalan distillery as Ron Z. It was a poor man's Ron Zacapa, 95% the quality at 1/2 the price. Then they moved production to Trinidad and it hasn't been the same since. Ron Zacapa was previously labled "23 Years Old", but the change in labeling was not due to a change in blend, it was "coming clean" that it was never a 23 y.o. rum, as was pretty obvious by the price. It has always been a blend of rums from 6 to 23 years old.

So, Zaya, with lot's of added sugar and flavoring, is nothing like it's former blend. Zacapa on the other hand, is still the same "excellent for the price" rum, just with a more honest label.
