Think of it as a quarantine. They can go in when he runs out of bullets.
Actually, if he had been suicidal, this could have been much worse. It appears he wanted to escape and, in fact, did - until he was identified later, walking down the street unarmed.

Absolutely agree. The fact that crazy Nikolas Cruz wanted to LIVE and ESCAPE prevented a much higher death toll.
Imagining those unfortunate and innocent kids who did not yet realize the cavalry was NOT coming to help them. Tragic.

I still cannot believe this kid ended up without a scratch
Something is seriously wrong with this shooting
Especially when you see the giant anti gun rallies that pooped up 5 min later

If our domestic enemies successfully ban America's Rifle (the AR15) or "assault weapons" in general (which amounts to everything that goes "bang, bang"), then these perps will switch it up to putting pressure cooker bombs in the gym. The Boston Marathon bomb took limbs from seventeen people, injured hundreds, and outright decimated three bodies. Evil always finds a way to be evil. I fear IEDs far more than rifles. And IEDs give perps like this an opportunity to escape too.
