"Trump declared the top priority of the NRA since Trump’s election, concealed-carry reciprocity, “will never pass.”

I have seen this excerpt quoted several times already. I went to the source - looked at the tape. Listened to what he said. He specifically expressed support for the CCW reciprocity and suggested it be brought up in a separate bill stating he thought the overall bill being discussed at the meeting "would never pass" with CCW in it.

Yep. He said it should not be in this bill. However, he encouraged DiFi to put her additions in. Wonder what she will contribute?
If he is trying to outflank the Dems and make them look bad then he has picked a bizarre way to do it. His comments about the NRA, bump stocks, raising the age, and due process are insane. Utterly unhinged.
I fear he is the gun control advocate that I warned of during the election. I hoped against it and he said many, many words to placate people, but it appears, for all practical purposes, that he is pro gun control.
I hope like hell he proves me wrong.

Mitch will never let it come to a vote as a stand alone bill. I doubt it would pass in any case.

The Left would consider a national CCW amendment a "poison pill" and an excuse to scuttle the debate.

For the Left, all the demands for background checks, training, waiting periods, mental-illness limitations, etc are all McGuffins: the Left doesn't actually care about achieving gun control, they're arbitrary plot devices for rallying votes for Democrats and condemning Republicans. I don't think they view such demands as anything but insurmountable obstacles - if passed into law, the more anyone actually complies with the law the more the Left considers it presumptive proof the compliant citizen (actually satisfying those demands) is crazy and should be disarmed.

Trump is calling their bluff. Yes, he's more a centrist on the subject: totally opposed to outright bans, but does see room for limiting criminals/crazies from abusing opportunities. He's offering the Left some massive-sounding concessions where Republicans usually just scream "no!" at Leftists (or relent & betray), so Democrats are giddy over what they're hearing - but not thinking yet about how the consequences will devastate their base. When they do figure out what he's pulling (intentional or not), they'll freak and flee just as they did DACA.

Okay. That is what he said. But, if CCW reciprocity can’t pass as part of a negotiated bill in which both sides are expected to compromise, when can it pass?

In essence he did declare it would not pass..

Since full bill would not pass with CC in it, what makes you, Trump, or anyone think it will pass as a separate bill??

—Trump wants some sort of action...Period. So he said to Scalise, the one guy personally impacted by a shooter in the room, that he should not include that provision in the bill because Trump wants bill to pass...
