I’m wondering that too...is it proper procedure to collect signatures first then declare, rather than declare and then collect signatures? (That’s the only thing I can think of).
Nothing can defeat the bishop in UT!
Harry Reid is more powerful in UT than Mitt.
There is a good possibility that Mitt is being setup to fail during the General.
and Mitt is dumb enough to fall into the trap.
Remember the Reid memo that Mitt hadn’t paid taxes?
According to a friend on the Central Committee, the group that pushed this was opposed because it violates the law. When their attorney told them it was illegal, they fired him and passed it anyway.
A U.S. Senator from Utah is hardly the kind of person who seems like a strong prospective presidential candidate.
Romney couldn't even beat a rank amateur like Barack Hussein Obama. That guy has LOSER written all over him.
Where does Mitt claim as his home on his driver’s license, his residential taxes, etc.
Hopefully, the folks are smart enough to see thru the Mittster and his backers.
After Roy Moore, I’ll take any Republican who can win in a general election, and who will vote for Trump’s judges. As others have, more or less, said here - anything else is icing on the cake.
If Trump doesn’t get control of the Judiciary, then nothing else matters...WE LOSE THE COUNTRY - it’s that simple, and it was obviously going that way under Obama and would have been finished off with a Hillary victory.
Simple example of where judges matter: They can support someone like Hillary LEGALIZING and making voting citizens of the 30 million Illegals in the country...probably through some ‘civil rights statute’. That’s it, it is GAME OVER for us and the country.
Nothing can knock Mitt out in Utah. Hes royalty there. If hes allowed to rn, he will float to victory on gossamer wings.
Lets hope the rule change benches him.
Mitt Romney and his globalist Leftist actions in history will cost the Republican party credibility issues for decades to come. He should bow out.
Of course Trump endorsed Romney. Smart play. Now Mitt is beholden to Trump and will look like the jerk he is when he tries to assault the President.
And Trump comes out of it looking like the bigger man and a good team player.
Not really. Trump changed registration from Independent to Republican in 2012 to vote for Romney. [although for some reason he didn't actually vote.] And he endorsed Romney, despite later saying he was too tough on immigration. And Trump comes out of it looking like the bigger man and a good team player.
How come he's always being a team player for the liberals and he can't even throw moderates and conservatives a bone. He just signed the biggest budget in history for them. He protected ACA for them. He gave tax cuts to illegals. Can' he do something for conservatives and moderates, just for variety?
“Word on the web is Mitt Romney is running for U.S. Senate in Utah in order oppose President Trump every step of the way like McCain and to possibly run for the Republican Primary.”
No doubt in my mind that Mitt would be another John McCain.
Well said!
While thats true, it is also true that the political parties may establish their own party rules, for candidates and members.
Romney could run as independent, depending on filing deadlines or as a write-in.
I wonder if this goofy application of this rule, ( different in district to district) was an effort to block Romney?
Perhaps. But time and time again, a candidate who thought he was a shoo-in has lost to a determined opponent running a grass-roots campaign--as in the 2016 Alabama Senate election.
What else could he do? Trump tried to keep Senator Hatch, because he knew very well was coming for that seat, gunning for him.
I wonder if this goofy application of this rule, ( different in district to district) was an effort to block Romney?
...
Maybe they don’t like carpetbaggers in Utah.
There is no doubt in my mind that Trump has no earthly use for two shmucks. Romney and Cruz.
He trusts neither, but can grin at both.
“Romney is 70. He probably does want to make trouble for Trump”
Yet when he was 68 he publicly said, “Donald Trump is a fraud and a phony.”
