It did take a Black mayor to do that.
It could be that the city elected Wilson Goode just because he was the mayor who could get rid of MOVE.
Nothing would surprise me. I am pretty sure if a white mayor did exactly the same thing, the black mayor did, we would be in our 33rd straight year of rioting in Philadelphia. I think it’s a shame what happened, but I don’t know what the alternative was.
