When you are 20 feet away trying dodging something coming at you with a speed of 1000 fps. You have 0.02 seconds to move. vs 0.007 seconds to move. Also watch any video where some armed criminal confronts an armed civilian. It seems every time they run away. You can defend an entire hallway just with suppressive fire.
