The release said that Peterson had been the SRO at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School since 2009. It reads, “Deputy Peterson has proven to reliable in handling issues with tact and judgement.” It is also stated that Peterson was responsible for investigating crimes including property crimes, assaults and narcotics offenses. The release goes on to say that Peterson was active in “mentoring and counseling” students.

The Sun Sentinel reports that Peterson earned $75,673.92, citing sheriff’s records. You can read Peterson’s retirement documents here:

Just guessing but due to minimal range time he had minimal confidence at being able to counteract the killer with an AR-15.

A cop with 25+ yrs of "training"/"experience" wasn't more qualified than a 19 year old????

The problem is the only people who want school recourse jobs are the ones who don’t want to see any real world action.
They are usually just seeking a place to ride out the end of their career.
Younger officers should be rotated through those schools regularly.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“earned”?
I say the more accurate thing to say is that he was “paid $75,673.92”.

But that is sort of a minor issue, at the present time.

Peterson was named their school resource officer of the year for 2014

They take turns, just like teachers take turns electing each other "teacher of the year."

Cops were under standing orders to ignore teen criminal activity at the Broward school. So that the school could get federal funding, they were able to fudge crime statistics that heavily exposed Black/Hispanic crimes in order to falsely claim juvenile delinquency was down 60%!

The level of corruption is so intense - I would not be surprised if the op on duty was under orders to STAND DOWN while children were being murdered. Was he a coward during those 4 minutes he stood outside while Cruz was firing? Or did Sheriff Israel direct him to “set up a perimeter”?

Let’s ask Broward resident Cong Debbie W/S.
CONGRESS: Capitol Switchboard 1-866-220-0044

Washington, February 14, 2018
U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) released the following statement on the Broward County school shooting:

“As a Broward County resident for nearly 30 years and an elected official for most of that time, my heart breaks for the victims, their families, friends, and loved ones. As a parent of a Broward County high school student, and as someone with friends whose children attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, it is gut wrenching that another senseless school shooting has occurred, this time in our community.

In the United States of America, it is simply unacceptable that we allow children to run for their lives with their backpacks on. Unacceptable that we allow parents to fear for the worst while they wait to hear back from their kids, and unacceptable that we allow survivors of school shootings to live with a trauma that can never be explained away.

I stand with my community and our families and ask all Americans to keep the parents, siblings, spouses and loved ones in their prayers this evening. No American anywhere should have to feel the pain that Broward County feels today, and too many communities have felt across our country countless times before. We must do something about this senseless epidemic of gun violence and we must do it now.”

1) What is the training?
- 1a not all training is good. And people tend to follow training when not given time to think.
- 1b not all training is appropriate for the situation.

2) what did he know at the time?
- 2a how many shooters were there?
- 2b what were the shooters armed with?
- 2c did his position outside make tactical sense in segregating the situation?
- 2d with the chaotic information available to him, would the situation be significantly more likely to be improved by going in compared to the risk of being taken down and being no longer available inside or out?
- 2e would fighting his way through a fleeing crowd excessively compromise any positive effect he might have had?
- 2f when should he have expected assistance?

3) was he hired to be a hero...alone?

We can condemn bits and pieces of his actions - especially given time to think about it, and more full knowledge of events. We can decide he’s not reliable in certain situations. What we shouldn’t be doing is turning into a ferocious mob running on passions.

***My first thought was about the guy who killed his expectant wife in CA.***

Me too.

Then there was the retired cop Drew Peterson convicted of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He is also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Scott Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife and unborn child.

What’s in a name?????

Brave Sir Robin ran away
(No!)
Bravely ran away away
(I didn’t!)
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
(No!)
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
(I didn’t!)
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
(I never did!)
He beat a very brave retreat
(All lies!)
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
(I never!)

I saw an article yesterday that Broward cops are more political than the are great cops. Can’t remember where I read that.

Sheriff Israel announced that in future, his SROs will be armed with rifles on school premises. Those rifles will be locked in a secure patrol car until needed. Sheriff Israel said his decree is supported by the school superintendent.

So all they have to do is run outside to the parking lot, unlock their patrol car, grab their rifle, and run back into the school.

"There is no one that is going to tell you a negative thing about Deputy Peterson. "

Excuse me, I have a negative thing to say about deputy Peterson, he failed at the most crucial event in his life. Reminds me of Joe Paterno, he built a whole life doing good things and failed those little kids at the most crucial decision in JoePa's life. One major moral failing wipes out whatever you did previously.

Some people may say I'm dumping on the guy, but the reason we heap the praise on police, fire and other emergency workers (well deserved) is because they are willing to go do the things that most won't do. If you take the paycheck and then don't do those things, then you are deserving of scorn.

I just want to know why he didn’t go in.
