I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue - I hope!

There is strict control in the military, unlike in civilian life ... half the kids are on anti-depressants and getting pumped full of violent culture through games, music , movies... the age requirement might be a good idea .

Of course they sound reasonable.

Here in Washington State some yahoo put forth a law to ban bump stocks “and other features that increase the rate of firing speed including enhanced trigger function, etc.” So ANY work done on a trigger assembly to make it smoother, etc. would be against the law.

I would posit that a sling, scope, red dot or laser would also allow one to make a quicker, accurate shot and could be banned, but I don’t think they were spelled out (or exempted) in the proposal.

The proposed law didn’t even make it to the floor thank goodness.

The “common sense” law they DID pass a few years ago was billed as a “keep guns out of the hands of felons” which required all gun transfers to go through a background check. No more private sales. On one hand that may sound reasonable.

In truth, and spelled out in the 18-page law, a husband can’t let his wife shoot his firearm on their own property, even if he is standing next to her. Or any adult for that matter. (Minors under his care are allowed to shoot his weapons while he is present.)

Inheritances would all need to go through the background checks and fees.

The law is not clear on leaving your gun with a gunsmith (a “gun transfer”) - but I know several gunsmiths that will now only work on known customers in fear of some sort of sting.

Of course nobody at the gun range is getting arrested for swapping around guns which happens quite a bit. Although by law - it is illegal now.

Raise age to 21...

Then the voting age needs to be raised to 21 as well because if a person isn't mature enough to own a gun until then they aren't mature enough to vote until then either.
The age of military volunteers needs to also be raised to 21.

You want adult children? FINE! Treat 'em like children.

Are you serious ?
What if the next ban is Christians or Jews or Catholics ?

How would an age ban prevented Las Vegas or Orlando or Fort Hood attacks ?

Its the Slippery Slope .

Docs already ask if you have weapons.

Ask him if it's covered by HIPAA confidentiality, then tell him you have several 50 cal machine guns, an M1 Abrams tank, and a fully armed F/A-18 Super Hornet in your garage.

And then tell him that you have an Uzi on you right now.

Mental Health covers a lot of territory and a lot of it involves non violent, non aggressive, conditions. The change needs to come in dealing with persons in which family, LEO, and professionals treating a person they know are a risk to others and themselves.

You can literally sign for life ending measures for a family member but you can not sign for them to obtain mental health help.

When "The Enlightened" back in the late 1960's - early 70's sprung open the doors of mental facilities with no discernment and put persons out into society whom not only can not function or care for themselves but in significant numbers are a risk to self and others. They turned the problem over to LEO's to handle. This was the beginnings of Street People aka chronically homeless in America. Their arrest address will often be a rescue mission or homeless shelter.

Any bets the first target of the Liberal Gun Grabbers will be going after PTSD patients? In general they are very low risk as far as harming others. I've known PTSD vets I would hunt or go on a range with any time and feel safe doing so.

The LIBS will have to be watched closely on this so they don't go around creating list. Yes some patients and persons with severe behavioral issues should not have firearms. The most ironic thing to me is in my own community one guys issues went on for almost three decades. The local county sheriffs office in his home county had stacks of reports of threats etc. They had dealt with him for years since he was booted out of basic training. The adjoining county a few years back hired him as a teacher. I kid you not. His own family warned that school system about him but that county did not even check his county of residence before hiring him. He was finally told by the principal after school hours he would not be re-hired the next year. No LEO's present despite his history at other employers of threats. He left and came back and shot her and the assistant. Neither were fatal injuries but one is in a wheelchair.

The guys family had tried for years to get him help as well as protect themselves from him. The got no help. The Liberals policies prevented it from happening as their hands were tied decades ago.
