Microsoft founder and billionaire Bill Gates says he should pay more in taxes and that the government should require other superwealthy people like him to contribute "significantly higher" amounts.
"I need to pay higher taxes," Gates, who is worth over $90 billion, said in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria on Sunday.
"I've paid more taxes, over $10 billion, than anyone else, but the government should require the people in my position to pay significantly higher taxes," he said.
Gates, the second richest man in the world after Amazon's Jeff Bezos, didn't mince his words when it came to the GOP tax law, which cut taxes for corporations.

Is Microsoft one of those companies that bring in IT workers from India instead of hiring Americans? Are they among those always asking Congress to raise the number of visa workers for them? I believe I’ve read about them doing this. If that’s the case, he should use the money he thinks he should pay in taxes and hire Americans. I’ve read that the visa workers get about 30% less and are more pliant workers because their visas are tied to the company. Investing in American workers at Microsoft would be a much better use of that money than giving it to the government to waste. It would also make more people’s lives better.
People change. Would he have had felt this way before the realese of window?
Pay for all of us to have a free upgrades to MS Windows 19 and MS Outlook 2019. That would make all your Techies happy.
And you can be sure he’s done everything possible to shield his wealth and income from the tax man. Same thing for Warren Buffett — his insurance business was built on tax dodges for the super wealthy.
He says that but hires teams of accountants to make sure he pays the least possible.
What he REALLY means is that his competitors should pay far higher taxes.
Or that the middle class should pay far higher taxes.
Nothing is stopping him from paying as much in taxes as he wants.

Better than paying taxes, why doesn’t he just walk on at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and tell them that he’ll pay their food bill for the next 10 years? Or walk into Walter Reed and tell them that he’ll cover every prosthesis and rehab for the next 10 years. Or drop in on the VA and tell them he’ll pay for the hire of 1000 new RN’s for 10 years.
