MIDDLETON, New York -- An unlikely ally is meeting calls for more comprehensive gun control in America with action.
Scott Pappalardo has been a fervent advocate for gun owners' rights for more than 30 years.
The New York firearm owner even has a faded Second Amendment tattoo on his arm. What he doesn't have is an AR-15.
Pappalardo can be seen taking a circular saw to the weapon in a viral video filmed in the days after the deadly shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, in Florida.
After giving an impassioned speech on gun ownership, Pappalardo concedes he no longer believes people should own high-powered weapons.
"Is the right to own a weapon more important than someone's life?" Pappalardo asks in the powerful video.
Pappalardo says he ultimately decided to destroy his AR-15 because he was concerned what might happen if the gun ever wound up in the wrong hands.
He says in the video, "I can’t live knowing that my gun’s out there and it can one day possibly commit a horrific act like the other day in Florida.”" "It" will commit the crime? Um....really?
Man destroys his own property. Stop the presses! On the other hand....
Thousands of Amerericans exercise their Constitutional rights over the weekend and buy AR-15s and other modern sporting rifles. Crickets.....

An ardent Muslim can convert and become Atheist, because he no longer personally follows what that set of beliefs teaches, but that does not eliminate the religious freedom of others who follow the one true God and wish to continue doing so. Similarly, someone who believes in our God-given individual right to self-defense can decide he no longer values his life enough to defend it, without affecting the rights of free Americans. Neither individual conversion eliminates the individual legal and natural rights of others.

The false choice presented here is classic liberalism. The choice is not between the lives of those who wish to defend their families and their freedom with a weapon and the lives of those endangered by thugs, criminals, and crazy people. The only choice we have the power to make is whether decent people will be able to defend ourselves with weapons when armed enemies of life and of freedom attack. Disarming those who are willing to break the law is not a choice that we can make, nor would it be the right choice even if it were an option.

Well, that should go a long way towards preventing the next school shooting. There is no longer the risk that this idiot’s AR will escape it’s hiding place and go on a rampage.

Now if he (or someone else) tried to cut up my rifle... well, lets say that it wouldn’t go quite as smoothly.
I guess Scott Pappalardo is also against all ethical hunting, too. Unless you're shooting small game with a .22 or similar, you need (and are required by law in most places) high powered weapons to make an ethical kill.
I have yet to get a rational response when I ask a gun grabber for a definition of a "high powered" weapon.
