But thanks for clearing that up. Was curious how blindsided this family was about the kid (young adult actually) Like how well they knew him or his past. That would have made all the difference in their decision to allow him to bring in his firearms imo. If even that in his state of depression was not a good idea. Not that he couldn’t have stashed them elsewhere and retrieve at his leisure.... but they seem to be good Samaritans regardless. I just found it ironic the husband works for the government. It perked up my conspiracy theorist antenna for a moment :)

The Sneads were connected to Cruz by a friend of a friend. The friend didn’t warn them about Cruz’s mental illness or violent thoughts or police run-ins. I don’t even know if the friend knew. They were just approached by a friend who knew a troubled kid needed a home, and they accepted the call.

I think they are terrific Christians, and they were punished for their kindness.

I don’t even blame the mother for poor parenting. She lost her husband when Cruz was only 6 years old. Had the father lived to help raise his son, they may have gotten him the mental help he needed. With his mother having to work outside the home with a mentally ill child, she just didn’t have the time to cover all the bases.

It is possible she was a bad mother but it also possible she was simply overwhelmed.

But the Sneads, they were good Christians to take in a strange 19 year old who needed a place to get back on his feet, so they thought. They had no warning.

They must be bitter but I hope they can overcome it and learn to forgive. We Chrstians must forgive, as Christ forgives us. We have to get that beam out of our own eye first.
