Future of the Alamo front and center in Land Commissioner race

Texans go to the polls for primary elections on March 6, the same date is also the 182nd anniversary of the fall of the Alamo. Normally, they would not be connected but this year they are in one of the hottest primary races in Texas. Incumbent Land Commissioner George P. Bush is fighting off a blast from the past. His predecessor, Jerry Patterson, wants his job back in part because of a needed but controversial revamp of the historical site. Specifically, whether to move the cenotaph – the gravestone of the Alamo defenders...Bush and his campaign team didn’t grant us an interview on this story. However, late last year he had to defend his idea to skeptical state senators who approved $75 million state tax dollars for the plan...But one aspect of the master plan caught some people off guard. The re-imagined site would include more exhibits on indigenous people and life before the famous battle. Senators wanted a commitment, that changes would not shift the focus away from the battle itself.

P will not be getting my vote. I don't need the Alamo "re-imagined" for $75 million. Before he's finished, he'll likely have La Raza headquarters housed there.

For 75 million Pee will build a “Mexican perspective” center inside the Alamo.

P

Exactly what that family has done on us for last 65 years.

Prescot Bush was voted in as U. S. Senator in 1952.

I think the San Jose Mission down river has a lot of indigenous memorabilia if someone wanted THAT part of history. The Alamo does need to focus on the famous battle that took place there. There isn;t that much room to add displays actually.

Exactly.

If you want some modern things added, buy property nearby and put the modern things that you want there.

The Alamo should remain as it is.

Preservation is one thing, but screwing with that historic site would very wrong.

More importantly don’t elect him to anything else, he’s only suing the Land Commissioner’s office to get to be Governor and then El Presidente.

Nonsense. George P. Bush is a staunch supporter of President Trump. He's certainly no La Raza extremist. Indeed, he's gone totally against his father, Jeb, to support this President.

Is this Patterson guy a Trump supporter?

Well, it seems you are far more experienced than I. It makes me sick now to know how I defended both Presidents Bush only to have him “thank” his supporters by lovingly embracing the Clintons.

Bill and Hillary called daddy Bush every name one can think of and yet they are the best of friends today, “brother from another mother,” and all of that garbage.

I will never cast another vote for a Bush or a Romney, ever!

“Exactly what that family has done on us for last 65 years.”

Yes, it’s hard to figure out just where they are “natives!” Ole Prescot was born in Ohio, then moved to CT ( and Maine). Then back to MO, and on to Texas. Now Little Yebbie Jr. was born in Texas, but raised in Florida, and now he’s back in Texas. I just wonder when the BOOSH name is going to wear off in Texas. Texans surely can’t be proud of the BOOSH family, and yet here we are with the Half-Breed Mexican BOOSH as Texas Lands Commissioner. Go figure!

I visited the Alamo 18 months ago. It was great.
Leave it the F alone.
It doesn’t need renovation.
