Kevin Durant and LeBron James' video on Uninterrupted covered a multitude of topics: being All-Stars, being rich black men and living under President Donald Trump. James has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past, and this was no different. "(Trump) doesn't give a f--- about people," James said, and Durant agreed with him.
That prompted Fox News host Laura Ingraham to respond to their comments about Trump. She said they should "shut up and dribble" instead of giving their thoughts on the president of The United States.
In an interview with USA Today's Sam Amick, Durant responded to the news anchor's comments. He was blunt in his feelings.
While Ingraham would later put out a statement claiming there was "no racial intent" behind her words, Durant simply doesn't agree.
"To me, it was racist," he said while shaking his head.
Q: So how did her comments hit you when you first heard them?
A: "It didn't hit me. Ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think or even louder. I can't focus on that. I think we're doing some good things out here, using our platform, and I think what me and LeBron did with Uber (and UNINTERRUPTED) the other day when it came out, I thought it was great. I thought a lot of people enjoyed it.
James responded to the comments as well in an Instagram post. In lights is the phrase "I Am More Than An Athlete" with the caption "We will not shut up and dribble"
For me a little Ingraham goes a long, long way. Never, ever back down or virtue signal to socialists.
What she should have said was, “The reason it looks racist “to you” is that you are stupid. Lest you think that “racist” as well, the white people who agree with you are also stupid. Now, whether you dribble or not, shut up.”
Racist, racist, racist. What a cop-out. Plenty of hugely successful minorities - financially, family-wise, and community-wise, who have excelled with the admiration and support of we “evil” and alleged racist white people.
Unfortunately, the Sports Illustrated and Sporting News websites have lots of articles about this and also their new Olympic superhero (the gay skater who came in 7th in the Singles competition, but who craps on Trump). Sports was once a respite from the the divisions of politics. Now the Libs have made it into just a continuation. They use every means possible to push their agenda. They will do to the rest of sports, while Colin Kaepernick and the kneeling fools did to the NFL. Good riddance to them all.
Why do I recall Beavis and Butthead?
I wish I could send dumb LeBron James and dumb Kevin Durant back in time to a plantation in the Deep South circa 1840 or 1850.
We’ll see if anyone puts up with their crap in THAT time period. They would be begging to come back to 2018 and would throw themselves at the feet of President Trump.
Shut the hell up and play ball,
Seems to me that King James and Kevin Durant injected ‘race’ into their political commentary first. And when anybody comes back on them with a counter-argument it is THEY nor James or Durant who are the racists. This is why you can’t engage some people in rational arguments. You just need to crush them politically.
James & Durant as wealthy NBA players are living a life that few can aspire to — especially young black males. Maybe that is their Achilles heal. Muhammad Ali frequently described his black opponents as being ‘Toms’. The Left frequently calls conservative blacks as being ‘not authentic’. How much more does that particular comment apply to the wealthy Messrs James & Durant. Hit them with that and watch them freak. Drive a wedge between them and their alleged fan-base.
But "shut up and dribble" is the sort of thing that's bound to bring an angry response today. When everybody's expressing opinions all the time, why should athletes be excluded?
The idea that athletes or entertainers are only around to amuse an audience, doesn't really fit an age when everybody else is always opining about something.
Selective freedom of speech...
Go ahead Lebron and others, keep poisoning the well of your customer base. What you REALLY are doing, is destroying the livelihoods of the men that will follow you into the NBA. Soon, very few white people will want to waste their money watching overpaid black men snowflakes cry about racism while playing a poor form of basketball.
Nice job ruining the sport that made you rich!
Kevin- See ball- get ball- shoot ball. Repeat.
Another reason to hate Golden State.
That was probably Burgess Owens, long-retired defensive back (Jets and Raiders). He was a big time liberal as a young man. Then after the NFL, and after a failed business, he had to deal with the real world. He's now a true conservative that preaches personal responsibility, decries victim-hood, and hates the race card being pulled. BTW, he's black.
To continue the sports lingo, instead of shut up and dribble, how about this:
Final score: Trump 1, Clinton -2
Why don’t they just shut up and dribble?
For that matter, Kmart runs a continuous blue light special on Kleenex...get some, kkthx.
