A slip in the final stretch cost American skier Lindsey Vonn a spot on the podium in the womens super-g on Saturday at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Almost instantly after she had failed to medal in the event, people took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the skier. Why?
Back in December, Vonn was openly critical of President Donald Trump, saying that she wouldnt accept an invitation to the White House after the PyeongChang Olympics.
I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the opening ceremony, Vonn said in December. I want to represent our country well. I dont think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that.
Well, people didnt forget and they didnt let Vonn forget either. Many claimed it was karma. Some said it was #MAGA and their support for Trump. Others even linked her failure to PGA golfer Tiger Woods her ex-boyfriend who failed to make the cut Friday at the Genesis Open.
This isnt a new problem, either. Ever since Vonn voiced her opinion on the Trump adminstration, she has been receiving hate online. American ski jumper Lindsey Van whose name is just two letters off from Vonns said she has been receiving hate mail and comments directed for Vonn for weeks.
Vonn will have another chance to medal in the downhill competition on Wednesday. United States teammate Mikaela Shiffrin will also compete in the event.

He's probably gay or some other protected/adored/cherished class of deviant.
Hahaha!!!
Nice!!!!!!!
Just wondering, are all Olympic athletes invited to the White House or only those who win medals?
Rolling Stones on the subject:

I stopped watching the Olympics in general, and specifically on NBC, decades ago, so I don't keep up with what's on.
My only concern about the Olympics is that it's messing up the TV sweeps new epis, and even then, I can only think of one network show that I watch that's been affected.
he’s not gay- he’s a flame who wants to throw it in everyone’s face...big difference imo...
Having a heart full of malice can be very distracting, especially during those times when you need all your powers of concentration about you. Some evils are self-punishing.
This is the millennial Olympics.
Everyone gets a trophy.
Rippon is the third best of the three men on the U.S. team.
They put him on the “team skate” event, which some of the top skaters skipped (or didn’t have a team, like the Spaniard), so that Rippon would have some chance at a medal he could not possibly win on his own. Worked. The team got Bronze, and now the vicious little princess is an “Olympic Medalist”.
He’ll be doing TV commentary at the next Olympics.
I think Johnny Weir's got that gig lined up for life.
Well, Lindsey, Trump’s still standing and you’re skidding on your icy butt. Funny how these things sometimes just sort of work out, isn’t it?
Sorry hadnt heard about this one
So Vonn can criticize the President, that’s ok. But if you criticize Vonn, then it’s hate speech. Do they even realize how twisted their logic is?
Typical of our entitled snowflake athletes - “I’m proud of the way I skied.”
Yet, you did not WIN. Anything, at least yet.
But I had no idea there is a Lindsey Van. How unfortunate for her!
While I don’t like seeing an American lose, in this case I’ll make an exception...
