I would be curious what charge you could make in this particular arrest. It doesn’t sound like he conveyed a ‘threat’. Beyond that, the judge has to be amused how much paperwork will be created over a non-event.

This would bring a new problem if you sat and pondered upon this long enough. Kid X attends school, and is 17 or less....so he’s safe and will not own a gun. Kid Y turns 18 in the early part of the 12th grade...so he can legally purchase and own a gun. If you used the idiot logic, kid Y is now a potential threat because he can legally own a weapon. You’d have to wrap up high school requirements before the kid turns 18....if you used this logic.

Extend that to the 16yo that is given an AR for his birthday. His parents, being conscientious, teach him responsibility and he only touches it for hunting and range.
He tells his school friends he received an AR for his birthday within the hearing of a teacher.
BAM! Parents are arrested.
