Processed foods are driving up rates of cancer

Eating processed food significantly raises the risk of cancer, experts warned last night.

They said the disease was claiming more lives because of the popularity of ready meals, sugary cereals and fizzy drinks.

The products put middle-aged women in particular danger from breast cancer, according to a study in the British Medical Journal.

‘Ultra-processed’ food – any product involving an industrial procedure – now makes up half of our diet.

Packed with chemical additives, the foods bear little resemblance to home-cooked meals. And the more of them an individual eats, the higher their risk of cancer of any type.

Experts believe this is because processed foods, which include packaged meat, pies, sweets and crisps, are higher in fat, salt and sugar.

They also have less of the vitamins and fibre that ward off disease.

The procedures used to make the food – and the chemicals and additives used to boost their flavours and shelf life – are also thought to raise the risk. The researchers said it was the first study to highlight a link between ultra-processed food and an increased overall cancer risk.

they just are!

Exactly what I have - metastasized breast cancer. That is what has driven my search. I make more and more of my own bread, baked goods, etc. Rarely eat out. Cook meals with foods I've read the labels on. It's a lot of work, more so than it needs to be. The only bread I've found here without soy is Martins Potato bread. I like homemade bread, it's mainly the investment in time that keeps me from making it more than a couple times a month.

Soy as the basis for everything has long been a goal of the communists/socialists, and they appear to be very successful here. International foods in our grocery stores don't seem to have nearly as much soy (except in chocolate - it's almost impossible to buy any chocolate except dry cocoa now without soy as the emulsifier.

Good point; I’ve noticed that families with multiple generations of obesity love to retreat to the “hereditary/genetic” excuse rather then the obvious: They are handing down the same horrible eating habits/diets. When a parent eats “sketti and butter”, and then feeds that to a child, they’ll both be fat; not genetics, but poor choices.

I believe it is largely the soy in so much processed food that is the problem.

Also, among other problems with highly processed foods, one big problem is that the processing destroys the nutritional value (vitamins, etc) in the foods. A lot of the food produced in factories is nothing more than empty calories. It may taste good, but it isn't giving the body what it needs to maintain good health.

***** Shut the heck up, who gives a krap what makes you die? We all die! *****

Yes, we all die. What many of us would like is to extend and to have a good quality of life and not having a monthly doc visit.

I’m very sorry for the loss of your sister, but that hardly makes a case for or against anything. The main risk factor for most cancers is age, with those over 65 being the most vulnerable. Of course, that doesn’t mean younger people don’t get cancer, it just means that cancer is largely a problem with the decline of the immune system as we age.

Our family is chock full of scientists, and one of our sons is a cancer researcher. He is adamant, as are all the rest of the science types in our family, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with GMO food. I suggest that much of what passes for research put out there on the internet is completely bogus.

I pray you can beat the breast cancer. I do a lot of home cooking so that I know what is in it.

One of the sneakiest things with soy is salad dressing. Some say they have olive oil, but they also have soybean oil. I don’t eat much bread so that is not really an issue but I do make bread sometimes.

I have a home business so it is easier for me than it is for many folks to be able to have things cooking while I work. I grew up in an era where most food was home-cooked so thus have never really relied on processed foods.

Supposedly obesity is the number one cause of death now rather than cancer.

Well, basically they are re engineered seeds made by Monsanto required to have
Glyphosate sprayed on them every year, and then the farmers need to buy more “seed” under the contract. Rinse and Repeat.
So we are all eating glyphosate made by Dow Chemical.
Michael Taylor, former V.P. of Dow Chemical is Ozero’s former Asst Sec. at the FDA.

Huge Contributors to Ozero’s campaign... this has been going on since Killary became first Lady.

I cannot eat out for the last 10 years, may not affect you, but it makes me deathly ill.
I have not seen “Food Inc.”, but even my Millenial , who has always thought I was nuts, came and apologized to me at great length after watching said film and doing his own research.
He has been very careful about his diet since then.
I do not feed my family anything with pesticides, GMO’s, antibiotics or other crap.
We rarely get sick, and then briefly.
And you?

I agree.

Processed foods = bad.

I eat a clove of raw garlic every night before going to bed. I eat eggs over easy for breakfast with swiss cheese and sprouted grain english muffins. Blackberries and high-fat yogurt with the live cultures.

For lunch, usually vegetable soup.

For dinner, usually meat or fish with green vegetables.

Snacks are nuts or nut butter.

Lots of olive oil. Wine or beer for beverages. Black coffee too. Or green tea.
