News Analysis: After Florida shooting, Trump offers comfort - to gun owners

The day after a shooter killed 17 people at a Florida high school, President Donald Trump offered comforting words - for gun owners.

"We are committed to working with state and local leaders to help secure our schools and tackle the difficult issue of mental health," Trump said in brief remarks at the White House. "It is not enough to simply take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference. We must actually make that difference."

Translation: Your guns are safe.

With Republicans in control of both chambers of Congress - and Democrats holding enough seats to sustain a filibuster in the Senate - it seems highly unlikely that Congress will send Trump any major change to gun laws anytime soon.

On Thursday, gun-rights advocates praised Trump's expressions of sympathy for the victims, their families and survivors of the shooting. They were reassured by what he's said in the past - and what he didn't say at the White House - about his universe of solutions for preventing the next deadly attack.

Comcast is the reason conservatives have a hard time getting into broadcast media. They are an information distribution Monopoly

I hope this doesn’t sound callous but it is a fact that six teenagers die every day because of automobile accidents on American roads yet there isn’t 24-hour news coverage lamenting for them and their families who are just as deserving as 17 who die in a school shooting every couple of years or so.

As a matter of fact, today and every day around 21,000 children die around the world for various reasons. Why are these tragedies not in the headlines?

Are the lives of mass murdered children families more deserving of national sympathy and days of continuous coverage than the 21,000 who die ever f’n day?

Thank you, NBC News and beta-male Allen, that is news I can use! The fact that none of the millions of us peaceable American gun owners have EVER murdered ANYONE means we should keep our guns. No thanks to you people, you domestic enemy of the Constitution.

Sadly, nobody talks about it — not one radio jock, not one pundit, not one representative, but perhaps just a few FReepers.

He needs to fear coronary artery disease more than guns.

To your point, there are more than 17 murders PER WEEK on the streets of Chicago. Where gun laws are as strict as anywhere.

Comcast is becoming increasingly illrelvent but the new gate keeper are even worse Google and Facebook. That we are talking about.

Comcast just historically worked to keep us out of the market. Much like Hollywood casters and directors discriminate against conservative actors and voices.

If there were one thing that would make a dramatic differences it would be banning discrimination against ideolgical believes just like you ban discrimination against sex for non-work related reasons. If we had such protection under the law the leftist indistry leaders would lose gig suns of money and the political land scape would change dramatically.

Thanks.

These would-be tyrants get me more ticked off every time they open their mouths. First, they have not got Clue #1 when it comes to firearms. Second, all they seem to want to do is take our property, or toss us in jail/kill us if we refuse to comply.

Well, here’s my answer: “NO! Now what are you going to do about it?”
