Didn’t 0bamie get money for that? What happened? At least we get the benefit for infrastructure, where as obama gave the money to other sourses in one way or another. Did we benefit?

No, it’s propper tax, it’s a use tax and if set up correctly where a certain base # of miles the tax can be written off the bottom line of you tax bill would be even better and more progressive of a tax. Lower impact on poor people and higher impact on wealthy.

Airlines need an exemption as well as Truck haulers.

Another reason why I like it is it’s devastating to California and I guess other blue states with high Gas Tax. It also splits the environmentalists on whether to be ant-trump on this or pro-environment and thus pro-trump on this.

Face it, Trump is the ‘100 year storm’ for progressives. He’s flooding them with problems after problems and setting one division against another.

How about a 5% “fee” on remittances to Mexico instead?

The sums don’t pay for nearly as much road as they once did, because they haven’t increased with inflation, but the price of paving and building had.

First, defund everything currently funded by fuel taxes that aren’t roads/bridges used by the cars of the folks who pay the taxes. No bike lanes, no bike paths/hiking lanes. No green space, no trains, bus programs, nothing. Move all those monies back into the trust fund to pay for roads and bridges first. Then we can talk tax hike.

No. Cut welfare, eat, section 8 then cut SS and Medicare. The handouts have to stop period.

If Trump does this, he better not even think about running in 2020. Gas already too high and hurting people. Any relief from his tax cut will be wiped out at the pump.

Let the president “drill baby drill.”

When he gets gasoline down to $1.00 per gallon, then he can add his 25 cents a gallon tax. Otherwise, no.

Trump’s worst idea yet! Will he veto a stand-alone DACA bill that Congress desperately wants?

Reportedly? Isn’t that what NY Slimes and Washington Compost always “report”?

5 cents in 1950 equates to 52 cents now in terms of buying power/inflation.

Not that I am for increasing taxes. I was curious and looked it up.

Not me, thank you.

The gas tax is regressive and especially foul in that it hits hardest the working poor.

Taxing stuff that is a bigger piece of the working poor’s pie than the middle and upper class’s is just nasty.

My Cavalier takes 15 gallons every 10 days or so.

15 x .25 = $3.75 x 3 = $11.25 x 12 months = $135/yr

Maybe

Funnel any infrastructure money directly to the states.

I believe you.

My point was that increase in inflation is completely the fedgov’s fault. Inflation is not something that just randomly accidently happens. It’s planned and promoted by the fedgov.

I’m willing to pay .05 cents per gallon for the roads. No more.

“Always negotiating. Anyone feel like paying an extra 4 bucks every time you gas up the Camry?”

It certainly beats paying $60 a week to drive on what were free Interstates...if Trump gets his way with tolling.

But with our luck, we’ll get both.

“It would probably completely unwind the benefit of the recent tax cut for the middle class.”

Roughly 10% of the tax cut for me ($250 per year more for gas, versus $2500 more per year from the tax cut). But one thing that will wipe out the tax cut for me is tolling...based on the toll rates that I’ve seen where this is going on.
