The other day, I was perusing some vintage high school yearbooks from the 1970s and noticed the abundance of rifle and shooting clubs. Funny how there did not seem to be a problem with school shootings back then and that this very seldom, if ever, is considered by the liberal Dumbocrat crowd.
Yes, I was raised in a rural area and boys old enough to drive to school had their rifles and shotguns in the car to go hunting either before or after school.
Sadly, those days are gone forever..................
That wasn't THAT long ago...
Our MCJROTC had a rifle range on campus, and 1st Sgt Daly taught marksmanship as well as respect. All cadets were taught basic marksmanship. BTW we had M1’s to drill with, and also did drill with the bayonet. We also learned how to maintain and clean them, and cadet officers carried 45’s which we learned to maintain and clean. The M1’s were replaced by M14’s in my junior year. They were demilled by having a spot weld over the bolt face where the firing pin was. However replacing the bolt would have made them serviceable again. There were no shootings or range accidents.
