Child abuse charges vs. teacher who allegedly forced student to stand for Pledge of Allegiance

LAFAYETTE, Colo. - A Boulder Valley School District teacher now faces child abuse and assault charges for allegedly forcing a child to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance earlier this month, CBS Denver reports. Lafayette police say Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School, grabbed a boy by his jacket, lifted him to his feet and took him out of class on February 1. Police were called.

The school district released a letter it sent to parents Tuesday saying, "Today we learned that the Boulder County District Attorney's office has formally charged Angevine Middle School Physical Education Teacher Karen Smith. Ms. Smith has served Boulder Valley School District for 20 years and is currently on paid administrative leave. We are cooperating with the District Attorney's Office and respect their decision on this matter. We are unable to comment further because it remains a personnel matter that the school district is actively investigating."

The school district allows students to stand or sit during the pledge, district spokesperson Randy Barber told the Denver Post.

My PE Teacher had a big old wooden Paddle and he knew how to use it. He had it hanging on the wall behind his Desk.

I’m 64 and still remember exactly what it looked like. It had 13 holes drilled in to reduce the wind resistance. LOL

There is indication that there is enough to bring charges against the teacher.

More information will be revealed at the criminal trial against the teacher and the civil trial against the school district.

Yeah. The city always find "substantiated charges" against the teacher, even on trumped up charges. I'm not surprised in the least.

Such people pay taxes, too.

Then your kids should be forced to participate in any “gay” indoctrination assemblies, too, right?

Freedom is freedom, no matter who pays the most in taxes.

This is an edgy issue, but students should not be required to stand. There are religious sects which forbid it

Some religions forbid students from standing up in class?

For what reason?

Do you have any details to offer?

Standing during the oath of allegiance to the nation's flag and to the republic is not a religious act.
Students are not required, and cannot be required, to recite the phrase "under god".

But quietly standing during the period when others recite the oath seems to be nothing more than a small act of respect for the nation.

.

For most of my life I have stood and taken part in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then I researched where the Pledge came from. And found out about the man who wrote it and why he wrote it.

Out of good conscience, I can no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance. When the occasion arises before a ball game or whatever, I stand and am respectfully quiet with head tilted inconspicuously down. I recognize that most will in good faith recite the Pledge and they are afforded that right. It’s not a big deal if we may disagree about the Pledge. They can take part in good conscience just as I can not take part in good conscience.

There is a pledge that I wrote on my own however, which I quietly recite in my heart at such times. A pledge to adhere to and uphold the Constitution. In my mind, it suffices.

Funny that homoFascists are using the exact same arguments that you promote.

"Some religions forbid students from standing up in class?"
Like some religions forbid bakers from baking cakes?

"Standing during the oath of allegiance to the nation's flag and to the republic is not a religious act."
Just like "baking a cake" or "arranging flowers" isn't a religious act?

You seem awfully naive on this subject. Jehovah's Witnesses are forbidden to stand and pledge allegiance. That has been found constitutional. There are also some Christian sects which forbid or discourage the act of making oaths or pledges. Are you anti-freedom?

Get consistent or get lost.

I'm just incensed when others tell people what they MUST do. Laws should prohibit people from actions, not INactions.

For what it's worth, I'm on this teacher's side as far as not being guilty of assault. And I'm against anyone not standing respectfully. But that doesn't negate their rights. I realize that there is a spate of racist Kaepernick supporters in many schools, and they are despicable. But that should not negate the rights of the few people of conscience who choose not to stand.

[Let me tell you about the school I went to.. public and run by the local school board...

Chewing gum was the worst thing we got in trouble for.
There was no talking back to any teacher and you knew the rules on day one.]

This is a good thread, one of anger and yearning for the schools older (perhaps as young as middle age), citizens attended.

frnewsjunkie’s key phrase was local public school, one run by the downhome folks who have a more personal stake in their kids present and future.

There are so many good responses to so many FReeper’s posts that to answer each would clog the pages. However, I am responding to frnewsjunkie on behalf of all who are really getting angry about the Cultural Marxist scum who control our children’s future.

Fortunately, I see enough stirring to lead to the boldest amongst us into action.

As I sit comfortably at my keyboard, with good strong black coffee cooling as I write, I am telling you what getting out of the chair action I’m personally taking.

1. I’m telling all my church members they should homeschool. In this day of needing a two income family to pay taxes as well as living expenses, this is impossible to do on short notice.

2. Therefore, I am volunteering all the time my retired situation enables me to have to tutor kids that want out of the decay that is our public schools.

3. I am contacting the homeschoolers in my area and asking them to interpret Oregon state law about small private schools. I mean to start tiny neighborhood or church schools in private residences, using my own house as the first example. How much grief will the state give me, and hopefully thousands of others who want to help give motivated children good old fashioned readin’ writin’ and arithmetic lessons to our youngsters?

I have no idea, but I will find out and post it for FReepers to ponder and act on.

I, as a grandfather, am personally interested in corresponding with any FReepers who want to get out of their chairs and help our kids get out of the filthy rotten tax supported hell holes our public schools are.

As I see the Proud guys actually fighting back against our demonstrating and disruptive activist enemies I feel a surge of optimism and direct action to save our republic.

I’ll see you at the barricades and at my house. Bring your kids, your spouses, friends, and neighbors. Let’s be like the Proud guys and teach our kids pride in their heritage and native land.

I have seen it go from what I knew to what my grandkids are growing up in. My 2 youngest go to Private Christian schools. My 6 yr old comes home and recites Bible verses. He talks about Jesus. I asked him if his teacher read from the Bible and he said she just talks about Jesus and things. For Christmas he wanted a Bible.. and got one. (he also plays sports and is very sociable)

What government did to our schools ... the newer generations do not realize. The government wants our children’s minds. Every parent should know what is going on in their schools.

The cost of the Christian School is so high that there has to be a sacrifice somewhere else to manage the cost, and even then some families cannot afford it. Home school is one answer.. if the discipline to regularity is present.

Adding my 2 cents worth again.... Trump is doing a great job of getting things going in the right direction.. even tho he has been attacked from the left.. hard.. and most of the media are not telling the public things that are now working for the country... jobs are up, income is up, stock market is up, companies are coming back to the states, taxes are lowered, monies that have been off shore are starting to come back... etc.

Can we see that doing things that are right, brings on the right outcome? doing things obama’s way.. the way of the left... was dooming us as a nation.

You can argue all you want about everyone’s rights... gay’s rights, etc... and go ahead and make room for all their rights..that’s what the government did.. and smothered out the Christian rights... which produced what you have now compared to what I grew up in when government did not tell us what we had to do and not do.. plus respect for the persons in charge of a class or such.. that person was not like today.. they were all pretty much guided by Christian principals and those work! Believe it or not, giving rights to the gay crowd, does not produce the outcome you want.. giving rights to the athiest does not prove a good thing... look around and see that the Christian influence is what has been taken out of our society.. like it or not.. light is light and darkness is dark indeed.

When I was in elementary I saw the high school principal take a high school student by the collar of his shirt and literally lead him to the door where he kicked him in the seat and told him he was gone... do not come back. That’s how it was done for a student that would not conform to the school’s standards.

*child abuse and assault charges for allegedly forcing a child to stand for the Pledge*

From needing a ‘safe place’ to child abuse charges... what are they teaching our children in schools/colleges.. to be cry babies and not be able to stand on their feet as adults if the times get hard.. and they will again one day.

Teach children how to cope... how to cope in all things.. for they will face some in their lives!
