Child abuse charges vs. teacher who allegedly forced student to stand for Pledge of Allegiance

LAFAYETTE, Colo. - A Boulder Valley School District teacher now faces child abuse and assault charges for allegedly forcing a child to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance earlier this month, CBS Denver reports. Lafayette police say Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School, grabbed a boy by his jacket, lifted him to his feet and took him out of class on February 1. Police were called.

The school district released a letter it sent to parents Tuesday saying, "Today we learned that the Boulder County District Attorney's office has formally charged Angevine Middle School Physical Education Teacher Karen Smith. Ms. Smith has served Boulder Valley School District for 20 years and is currently on paid administrative leave. We are cooperating with the District Attorney's Office and respect their decision on this matter. We are unable to comment further because it remains a personnel matter that the school district is actively investigating."

The school district allows students to stand or sit during the pledge, district spokesperson Randy Barber told the Denver Post.

This is an edgy issue, but students should not be required to stand. There are religious sects which forbid it, and if we are serious about religious freedom, this is a perfect example.

I'm not saying that such students shouldn't be socially marginalized by classmates, though.

If I were the teacher, all would stand or they’d be out of my room. Yes, I might be fired but that would not stop me.. these “just one family” here and there who want to change the world, don’t start it in my world.

Be thankful you live in this great land.. or MOVE on out!

They are in a public school and it is paid for by individuals paying taxes. Add up the amount paid by those who believe in this country and then add up the amount paid by those who object to our flag or our pledge...

The few cannot dictate to the many...

The government is officially against the people. We let people abuse children by forcing a boy to become a girl through forced insertion of drugs into their system but this teacher is facing charges.

I am fed up! Time to fight back even more, folks.

In a sane world, the people who did will be charged with wrong doing, lose their jobs, and they will be rewarded handsomely for this insanity.

Let me tell you about the school I went to.. public and run by the local school board...

Chewing gum was the worst thing we got in trouble for.
There was no talking back to any teacher and you knew the rules on day one.
You knew you were in school and you knew the teacher was the authority.
If there was a troubled student who would not get the message, he was thrown out the door and would not be back in that door.

If it happened in the school, it's not a personal issue - it's a public issue!
P.S. I'd give her a huge bonus in her next check.

I believe this issue was settled by the USSC in the 50’s.

The tax payers will write a big check for this incident.

The kid’s college is paid for.

With that payout he will also be able to buy a big house and a several cars.

This lady looks like an old-school teacher, same as I was. I was also harassed endlessly for simply trying to maintain normal classroom discipline. In NYC, the students CAN get teachers fired on the basis of completely fabricated statements. How's that for sick? I saw former colleagues brought up on baseless charges and terminated on the say-so of complete little liars who resented not having free rein to do whatever they wanted in the classroom.

You should see the welfare-collecting little scum here from every which country, probably here illegally, and taking up a seat in the classroom for which they are not entitled, refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. They learned that, like they learned most of their new "American" social mores, from ghetto thugs who were spawned, not raised. The first English words out of their precious mouths are "F___ you", "Suck my d___", etc. They think refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance makes them more "American". Sick.

So I can certainly see, being fed up with the above discribed behavior, how another teacher could have allegedly tried to encourage a kid to stand for the Pledge. And you see the world of trouble this brought on her. SICK!

A retired friend who was substitute teaching most days told them this week not to call anymore. He is tired of school induced political correctness problems.

Boulder is to Colorado what Austin is to Texas.

An enclave full of commie-loving, America-hating liberals.

But seriously, "child abuse" charges against a 20 year career teacher?

Another example of the tail wagging the dog and the criminalization of what used to be common behavior when some kid in school acted up.

I can remember my football coaches kicking us in the ass, throwing clip boards at us, yelling and berating us like we were Marine recruits and they were the drill sergeants.

I turned out okay and never even thought about filing charges against the coaches.

I ended up respecting their authority. Sometimes kids need to be "woke up".

The teacher assaulted a student.

Who said that she did this? Do they have video? I have seen way too many lies told by students to just take at face value what they claim against teachers.
