Marine Corps Eases Requirement that Has Inhibited Female Infantry Officers

The U.S. Marine Corps will no longer require prospective officers to pass a punishing combat endurance test to graduate from the service’s Infantry Officer Course.

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller quietly made the shift to standards in November, altering the test from a pass/fail requirement to just one of many exercises measured as part of overall IOC evaluation, the Marine Corps Times first reported on Thursday.

The course is considered among the military’s toughest training programs, with about a quarter of all students failing to complete it, according to the Washington Post. Most of the 30-plus women who have attempted IOC dropped on the first day during the combat endurance test.

Only one female Marine has graduated from the course since former Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced that all military combat roles would be open to women in 2015.

Marine Training Command officials rejected the notion that the change slackens service standards and said it brings the exercise back to its original intent of assessing the "retention of knowledge, skills, and fitness achieved" at IOC, Military.com reported.

"Over the past 40 years, the Marine Corps has made multiple modifications to Infantry Officer Course (IOC) program of instruction (POI) to reflect the requirements of the operating environment," Training Command said in a statement. "The quality of the course remains the same."

Officials said a Marine’s score on the combat endurance test would "inform" their overall graduation assessment.

Though some have proposed abandoning the test as a fail point in IOC, others have said such a change would lower overall Marine standards.

Marine 2nd Lt. Emma Stokien argued in a 2014 op-ed that removing the required passage of the test would negatively impact female integration into the service.

"Changing this rite of passage will be doing female Marines no favors in trying to be infantry officers," Stokien wrote in War on the Rocks. "Female Marines often have to work much harder than their peers to earn the same respect, and entering the infantry under the dark cloud of even perceived lowered standards will make this a practically impossible challenge and potentially cause real harm to unit cohesion and the faith between leader and led."

"Is Obama/Jarrett still presiddent?"

I'm wondering the same thing myself. Obama stacked the military brass with a bunch of Marxist America-destroying activists and Trump doesn't even seem to notice the situation or how grave it is. Trump is Commander In Chief now. He could put a stop to all these grievous things. What is he waiting for? Till he's out of office? tick tock

Thanks for Ping.

Some women could effectively serve in combat units. Most not. There is a physical difference between men and women that is indisputable. That does not mean they could not fire a weapon or face an enemy without fleeing.

It is done in other nations, but I still don’t approve of it.

Eased requirements = higher fatalities on the battlefield

I've seen lots of movies where females kick butt in fights with men. Why don't they recruit female soldiers from Hollywood? (The big lie, that women are equal to men in physical combat.)

Women infantry officers should lead all-female infantry units.

Who needs leaders that can survive a harsh wartime experience? .

Apparently, not the United States

Troops (including women) must be sacrificed so women can be officers. This is “progress”.

I thought Trump drained the swamp in the Armed Forces?

He hasn't. I'm not at all convinced that he understands how desperately it needs to be drained.

Looks like it's removed for both male & female Marines.

POS for a Commandant. Nobody ever saw any military use for him after Panama and Somalia. That’s right, constant war for nearly 17 years and they never found a use for him.

Now we see why. Women infantry officers are a disgrace to the Corps today. Men in a combat unit should never have to serve under a female officer...never.

And we have cowards like this for leaders who will not say so.

There is an inherent trait in men to be protective of women...It can be subconscious, but it’s still there...

This can cause a lack of concentration during combat and endanger all...

First we lost the Republic...Then we lost most individual freedoms & liberties...Now, over the past decade or so, we've lost the Marine Corps...

But hey! At least we had a female general commanding P.I. (I bet those Tampax inspections are a bitch!)...

Then we got wimpification of the training regimen for men...

Then we got fudge-packers in the ranks (And the foxholes took on a whole new excitement.)...

Finally the already wimpified training regimen has been reduced even further so that half-trained women & LGBTs can strike terror into the hearts of the chicoms and ragheads...

That’s very unfair of you. Mattis will say something dramatic and tough sounding.

This is the same thing as allowing female cops except in this case more people will get killed.
