You're fired: Trump to rid 'worst' federal workers, automatic raises, fat bennies
The Washington Examiner ^ | February 9, 2018 | Paul Bedard

President Trump plans to take the huge federal Civil Service off cruise control, ending automatic pay increases that go to 99.7 percent of the workforce, trimming fat benefit packages, and for the “worst,” rolling out his trademark phrase from The Apprentice, “You’re fired!”

In his budget, set for release Monday, his administration is planning the biggest reform to the federal workforce in decades, using models from Amazon, Google, and a handful of well-operating agencies.

Officials said the overall goal is to bring the 1950s-styled Civil Service into the digital age, introduce automation, reward “the best” with bonuses, make it easier to hire and fire, and provide “flexibility” by moving employees where they are needed and even rehiring skilled retirees.

Gone would be the automatic reward of pay “step” increases of 3 percent to 5 percent which 99.7 percent of workers get, regardless of their performance. Also targeted, said the officials, are annual reviews that now give “everybody” a grade of four or five on a scale of five. And benefits, now 47 percent higher than in the private workforce, according to a congressional report, will be trimmed.

“This is a subject that essentially people have ignored,” said a top Trump budget official at a background briefing. “The American people elected a president that promised dramatic change.”

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump called for a smaller, more efficient federal government and he repeated that in his State of the Union Address. "Tonight, I call on the Congress to empower every cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American people," he said.

Reforms have been introduced in the past but opposition from the biggest workforce in the country often puts up a good fight. This time,...

Yep. It’s time to introduce the “a box and 15 minutes to pack up your crap and get out” private sector method to the lazy, whiny, petulant, insubordinate gov’t worker.

I currently work for a county office and boy, I could list SEVERAL people in our dept. alone that need the boot. Do nothings, refuse to learn new technology and crying to the union all the time. We voluntold a couple of them to retire over the past 3 years and it was like watching paint dry with all the bureaucracy via the unions.

And even the UNION knew they were bad, hostile, combative, toxic workers!!!

I want to see a “clawback” clause applied to the estates of Congressional healthcare plan enrollees like the one in Medicaid. Heck, toss them into Medicaid itself. Make them subject to every odious rule and regulation to which they subject the populace. Insider trading, illegal, period. K Street? Influence peddling and foreign interference. Shut them all down.

Here at Fort Hood, I've found that the best way to keep the Union rep out of your office: I have pictures of Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump on my office wall. The Union rep refuses to enter my office. The few times that she felt that she had to say something to me .. and I am not a member of the Union .. she stood just outside my doorway to do so.

So I started keeping my door closed while at work and refuse to answer it if she knocks.

The only problem I see is that local politics will give the raises/promotions to the ass-kissers and not to the deserving - played the game for 25 Years, 10 as a military member supervising civilians and 15 as a civilian supervising civilians, and the ass-hats tend to pervert the best of systems.

The biggest obstacle is not being able to fire dead wood. When you see one dead wood POS getting the same pay as what you get, it demoralizes like nothing else. Giving management the ability to get rid of the freeloaders will go a LOOOOOOOOONG way to getting the workforce back into fighting shape.
If you are a good worker, you are often “punished by performance”. In other words, all the work gets piled onto you because they know it will get done while the freeloaders do nothing.

They were started with an executive order...I suppose they could be stopped that way. However, the wailing will be extreme and endless.
