Served 18 months there, the Koreans do not like the Japanese. From 1910-1945 they raped and pillaged Korea.
I’m sure the older generation Koreans probably still harbor resentment. But the younger generation doesn’t seem to care about those things.

For what its worth. When I was in Korea in the 1950s, the ROK captain I worked with told me he had to learn Korean after liberation. I was in a newsroom with Korean reporters after hour when they played the reverse side of a tape made in Tokyo in Korean to be air on a Korean language station. The back side of the tape was loaded with traditional Japanese music. They shut the windows, pulled down the blinds and begin dancing traditional Japanese dances. They had all been educated in Japanese. In the coffee shop I frequented, there was a sign in Korea that it was against the law to speak the “dwarf” language.
