An elementary school in New York has sparked a heated debate over its decision to cancel its traditional father-daughter dance, ostensibly in compliance with U.S. Department of Education mandates that went into effect last year.

According to the New York Post, the policy update requires schools to forego “gender-based” events and programs unless they provide a proven educational benefit.

Staten Island’s PS 65 has decided to err on the side of caution by abruptly cancelling the annual dance set for later this week.

What a perverse law. How crazy you'd have to be to even think of something like that.

Many felt the move was unnecessary, or at least too swift.

It was neither unnecessary nor too swift. It was perfectly insane.

Are there any sane people left in "academia?"

I'm tied for the worst dancer in North America. I went to two father-daughter dances when both of my daughters were in high school. To this day, 20 years after my youngest daughter graduated from high school she still humors me letting me put into action the three swing steps I ever knew.

Any person who makes the decision to cancel such an event needs to be beat up...just beat right up.

“forego “gender-based” events and programs unless they provide a proven educational benefit.”

What could be more beneficial to a young girl than to learn what it’s like for a man to show her love and respect?

Yeah, we don't need to abolish the Department of Education, they're clearly indispensable.

The Department of Education’s LGBT community liaison, however, defended the decision as well as the recently enacted Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Student Guidelines on which it was based.

Ptuh!

What does President Trump's Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, have to say about this?

I have come to the conclusion that, while I still can, minimizing touch points for anyone in my family with the public school system is the optimal policy. We will not attend any public school program, activity, or event where attendance is not mandatory.

The best way to meet your objective is to get all your family members out of the public school system, now. Anything less is foolish.

They had one of these dances in our small town in the past couple days (they actually held it over 3 nights because that many people wanted to come! Some fathers with multiple daughters took each one on different nights.) The photos were in today’s paper & they were darling.

A Gypsy tale

“Oh my, such ostracized, scorned, belittled people,” Clifford thought, as the drizzling rains washed away his newly-”paved” driveway and rinsed the “paint” off the vinyl siding of his house. He finally turned and walked back inside his home, increasingly concerned that his young daughter had not yet returned from her “date.”

= = = =- =- = = = = = = =

Why are WE paying for a Liaison anyway.
If ANYTHING the FED should not interfere.

As bad as ‘every’ Govt office have a designated United Way coordinator(or they used to)..Why should WE not only be subsidizing them but also paying to have people collect money for them?

All the money and agents WE have for IRS etal and yet Private companies have to act as the tax collector for them.
