Mother of two seeks asylum in Utah to avoid deportation [barf]

A mother of two is seeking sanctuary in a Utah church to avoid deportation.

Vicky Chavez fled Honduras in 2014 to escape domestic abuse, rape, and persecution. She says she came to the U.S seeking asylum.

“I came to the U.S. fleeing domestic violence, rape, and being persecuted by my daughter’s father,” said Chavez. “Coming to the United States meant safety from a man who suggested that he knows people who could harm my family.”

Chavez has a 6-year-old daughter she brought with her when she fled and a 4-month-old daughter who was born here and is a U.S citizen.

Community organizers were preparing to protest her deportation at the Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday, but at the last minute, Chavez decided to take a chance finding sanctuary rather than risk putting her childrens' lives in danger.

The First Unitarian Church opened its doors right away.

”We have volunteers that will be staying with Vicky 24/7,” said Amy Dominguez, a member of the group Immigrant Unity. “Everyday that she needs to be there she will be under protective custody, but ICE can still go in and detain her. If that does happen our plan is to expose ICE and pull out or camera and put it on video and show the public what it is like to have a mother detained in front of her children.”

Reverend Tom Goldsmith, the senior minister of the church, says the congregation unanimously decided to shelter Chavez and her daughters while their asylum case awaits approval.

"This church has opened its doors to a neighbor. We are all neighbors to each other and must therefore open our hearts in compassion," Goldsmith said.

Her application for asylum is still pending but according to ICE, she would be deported while her asylum case winds its way through the immigration system.

But we have to change the law first. And to change the law we have to change congress.

But we have to change the law first. And to change the law we have to change congress. And to change Congress, we have to change the public discussion:

We have to articulate why the rule of law is a good thing. This means explaining how turning a blind eye to illegal immigration enables the abuse of these illegals (human trafficking and the even more common employer abuses) while not actually protecting more people than a functional and completely legal immigration system would protect.

Do they know they are breaking federal immigration law?

put an end to this anchor baby scam once

That would likely mean either a Constitutional Amendment or a Supreme Court ruling that the 14th Amendment doesn’t mean what it pretty much says. (I know that when the amendment was written it wasn’t meant to create the idea of ‘anchor babies’ but rather to guarantee citizenship to freedmen, but courts have long ruled otherwise.)

Let me get this straight. When did domestic abuse become grounds for granting asylum. We Americans cannot solve the problems of the world’s sh!tholes by opening our borders to everyone that has a hangnail for an excuse.

I am willing to bet the ranch that this parasite has been on taxpayer subsidies since she crossed the border. It has proven so lucrative for her that she willingly created another dependent to enhance her odds of remaining here.

Now she is on the dole of the church. The pastor says that volunteers are going to be at this criminal’s beck and call 24/7. May the process be long and drawn out so as to tax the parishioners to the max./

What “changes” would you suggest be made to federal immigration laws?

There’s nothing wrong with our laws. What is wrong, what has been missing is the will or desire to enforce the laws.

American presidents since Bush I have been derelict in their constitutional duty—their oath—to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed.

The only reason President Trump mentions “reform” is that he is bending over backwards to try and work equity for the illegal aliens here legally only by reason of Obama’s illegal EO ... following a quarter-century of malignant neglect by consecutive executive branches in defending the states from invasion.
And if you think about it, preserving the lives, liberty and property of Americans—not latin Americans, Mexicans, Chinese and Irish—in the several states—going back to the 18th century, that is the federal government’s genesis, its reason for being, its sine qua non.
That is its most important job. Of course those who sought “reform” would tell you it is things like fighting global warming, regulating the businesses that the owners did not build into the ground and turning over the fines to `woke’ PACs, and stirring **** in the middle east.

The reason the left and their quisling GOP-e allies were pushing for “comprehensive immigration reform” can be explained in one word. Amnesty.
So no, the laws are fine. Respect for the law is `old school’ and a conservative virtue. We’re fed up with seeing liberal scofflaws disrespect the law with impunity and since 11-8-2017, we—the mouse in my pocket and I—aren’t putting up with it any longer.
Rant/lecture over & out.

“Vicky Chavez fled Honduras in 2014 to escape domestic abuse, rape, and persecution.”

Vicky Chavez didn’t think her own country worthy of making herself part of a movement of change to correct the conditions that allowed her daughter’s father to harass her (no hint of marriage there, and no hint of marriage - in the article - to the father of her daughter born here). She also did not think her own country worthy of her just moving further in Honduras from her daughter’s father.

She seems to have made some bad choices. Those acts should not be considered the problem of the United States.

The causes for which someone should be given asylum have been broadened too far. They should be limited to causes made by the behavior, or tolerated by, the government of the country an asylum applicant is coming from. Personal life issues should not be conditions for approving asylum.

Not only is Salt Lake City a “sanctuary”, the entire state of Utah seems to be one also.

“SALT LAKE CITY — Five people from Honduras are facing deportation after an investigation by local narcotics agents.

Agents from the Utah Department of Public Safety’s State Bureau of Investigation have also seized more than 100 balloons containing heroin and nearly 50 balloons containing crack cocaine, according to a statement from DPS.”

I totally agree with letting her stay. Everyone knows that all of our domestic abuse victims emigrate illegally to other countries and that leaving your country is the only solution to domestic abuse. So why can’t she stay?

Very cute baby. The article didn’t state whether the mom is remarried as a bigamist or was just planning for a ‘anchor baby’ to anchor her application to stay here.
