I agree with your point, but take away homosexuality and how many of those other sins are many of us Freepers guilty of?
We all sin and fallen short of the glory of GOD. Homosexuality is wrong but as you point out, so is everything else listed there. No one can claim moral superiority just because others are homosexuals and they are not. We ALL need mercy and grace because there is no one that does right no not one ........cling to the Cross, folks
The difference to me is that I say when I’m sinning and I try not to sin anymore.
I don’t have a problem with a person that is LGBTQ that says it is a sin, but they are weak and need help.
Same with alcoholics. If they were saying it’s OK to drink a lot, I would have a problem with them. If they acknowledge they have a problem and need help, then it’s not an issue.
I acknowlege my own sins. I get angry easily. I’m very judgemental. I’m very materialistic. I can name many more. I feel very guilty for things I have done. However, I acknowledge they are wrong ask for forgiveness, and I try not to do them any more.
How many Freepers are unrepentant? Some certainly but most people recognize that they don’t get to decide what sins are.
Irrelevant question. The number of sins we commit doesn't matter. One alone is enough to separate us from God.
In the Lord's eyes, sin is sin. Theft is as bad of a sin as homosexuality, murder, coveting, etc.. No sin is "lesser" than another. We are ALL sinners, there are no exceptions.
Not the issue.
One cannot be in fellowship with God and walk the spiritual walk if one is in sin, i.e. missing the mark of His Plan.
It doesn’t matter if its homosexuality or driving 22mph everyday in a 20mph school zone. If a person places their soulish desires ahead of His Plan, they won’t grow spiritually through faith in Christ, because they aren’t in fellowship with God.
Does that mean G-d doesnt disapprove of those sins?
The difference is we are not asking the church to celebrate OUR sin
We all sin. However, most repent. The LGBTQ community doesn’t want to repent. No repentance, no forgiveness from Christ.
Matt 19:14 “For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”
The answer is in verse 11:
“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Guilty of? Most or all. But the crux here is that your preacher will/should be preaching against those sins and have an expectation for you to hear, experience conviction that you are doing wrong, and to repent of it.
Jesus did not say “Go now and sin some more”. A thief, adulterer, a drunk or a LGBT person is acceptable in church to hear of their sin and change. No amount of relativistic word-twisting can justify continuing sin.
The Greek & Hebrew words most used when talking about 'Sin' are archery terms meaning, "you missed the target". And what IS that target?
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:34-40
The 'Target' we must aim for is to love God with all of our being. When we miss that target, the Biblical term is 'Sin'. All words, thoughts and deeds contrary to loving God and our neighbors are sins. However, some sins do far more damage to our neighbors.
