Azaz (Syria) (AFP) - Turkey on Saturday urged the United States to withdraw personnel from a Kurdish-held town in northern Syria after Washington told Ankara it would stop arming a Syrian Kurdish militia that Turkey is fighting.

As Turkey's offensive in Syria entered its second week with new air strikes and artillery, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said it was "necessary for them (US) to immediately withdraw from Manbij", where Washington has a military presence.

Turkey launched operation "Olive Branch" on January 20 against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia in its western enclave of Afrin, supporting Syrian opposition fighters with ground troops and air strikes.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to expand the offensive against the YPG to Manbij, east of Afrin.

Erdogan (the wittle Sultan) "demands" US withdraw from Manbij? (so he can continue his genocide in progress)

Pound Sand nitwit.

His first invasion is not going well at all so he is doubling down. Headshake.

The Turkish presidency said US National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster "confirmed" to Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin in a phone call late Friday that Washington would no longer "give weapons to the YPG".

I DO NOT BELIEVE any of that. If McMaster did this on his own, he should be FIRED. Period. But I think Erdogan just heard what he wanted to hear.

I think US was saying PKK and Erdogan claimed he meant YPG/YPJ too.

Turkey can forget that crap.

If you think the US is going to even think about disarming Syrian Kurds your crazy.

In the first place, they will refuse to give them up. In the 2nd place our military won’t try to take them.

AFP Frogs are pro Socialist, pro Mob Rule anti Capitalist surrender monkeys.

The truth will be revealed by the answer to two questions:

1) Can the Kurds beat the Turks all by themselves?, and

2) Will the US pull the trigger on Military Force against the Turks?

I know that we are NATO allies with the Turks, but F that. If the Turks advance on American positions, we'll wipe out the Turks, as simple as that. We have air superiority and the Turkish military is no match for us. They can't even do guerilla warfare because the land is populated by the Kurds. So what's the deal?

“Erdogan’s spokesman... (said) that Washington would no longer “give weapons to the YPG”.”

It has long been the story the the US is just giving the heavy weapons to the other forces in the SDF. But all the public posturing is just a game.

The reality is that Turkey was/is lying about supporting islamists, and deserves to be lied to about our arming of the Kurds.

Disarming the Kurds means turning the area and its people over to Turkish-backed islamists like ISIS and al Queda, or to Iran. I can’t see the US agreeing to actually doing that, so if Erdogan insists on pushing to the breaking point, I think that he will see continually escalating costs, with no fundamental capitulation.

Perhaps this is how you put a hook in the jaw of a national leader and pull him to war?

“Will the US pull the trigger on Military Force against the Turks?”

They need to prepare a cover for that contingency, so some other group can be attributed, like the Kurds themselves, who somehow captured stocks of Turkey’s own missiles, or managed to get Russian or Chinese missiles, or some such.

“Perhaps this is how you put a hook in the jaw of a national leader and pull him to war?”

Maybe that was the Russian strategy, when they opened the Airspace from their S-300/400 air defense system coverage, to invite Turkey to invade Kurdish Afrin within Syria.

While the US has the ability to wipe out the Turks, it is so very far from "Simple" that the unpleasant consequences would linger for decades.

Erdogan is possibly like Hitler. We cannot attempt to appease him. Crush him now and he’ll learn his lesson not to mess with the West.
