LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - It’s a picture that tells a story of loneliness, hopelessness, despair. In the quiet corner of a Lexington park is the place where a homeless veteran lived and died.

A 15-year-old discovered the body of 69-year-old Dennis E. Reidy there on Tuesday.

“Lying in, basically, a type of garage storage box,” said Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

So sorry for what they did to your son.

Some reading you may be interested in: “PROZAC, Panacea or Pandora?” by Dr. Ann Blake Tracy and “Your Drug May be Your Problem” by Dr. Peter Breggin. Doctors put my ex wife on SSRI drugs because she was having trouble sleeping. It almost cost her her life. When I read in these books how these drugs alter the human brain I became angry in their wide spread use. IMHO its criminal and the prime reason 20 + vets are committing suicide DAILY!

...my Son-in-Law was injected with drugs prior to being deployed to Iraq.

Other than vaccines to prevent disease, what "drugs" would be given, and why?

Your SIL's experience has NOTHING to do with what we were discussing.

You're an idiot. Lariam was invented by the U.S. Army and administered to soldiers prior to deployments. The VA ignored its effects until lawsuits were brought forth.

Do you mean you don’t already have other obligations which would preclude you from taking on full responsibility for another’s life? Or do you mean you would abandon any responsibilities you already have which would stand in the way?

I have some relatives who could benefit from some interference in their lives, but I cannot abandon my current obligations to take on new ones. And at my age, with my health issues, and their stubborn streak, I’m not sure how much I could do for them anyway. I love them, and wish the best for them, but I’m not going to feel guilty over things I have no control over.

It's called Lariam, an anti-malarial drug. It was invented by the U.S. Army and was routinely given to soldiers deployed overseas.

Master Sgt. William Wright and three other Ft. Bragg soldiers were accused of killing their wives, all within a period of just under six weeks. Wright and another soldier were given Lariam, and Wright used that as part of his defense. One of his fellow Green Berets thinks Lariam did play a role.

Agreed. Service to America is a privilege, not a sacrifice.

True, and that's not to say we owe nothing to the serviceman, but there's got to be a limit.

Sorry, but it's been almost fifty years since the war ended. When will people be held responsible for their own actions instead of being described as victims?

If you haven't yourself lived through a true moment or series of moments traumatic enough for a severe PTSD diagnosis then you should reflect on that statement. Some events are LIFE altering and passage of time will never erase the event from you. The "talk the talk only if you walked the walk" phrase lends credence at times.

When dealing with homeless people, you have to realize that a vast majority of them want to be away from other people. If you asked them if they would RATHER be homeless, they know they should answer in the negative. However, their actions support a different conclusion.

Most homeless people want to be away from authority and from a world they have a difficult time adjusting to.

PTSD is a horrible mental health issue. It happens to people from all walks of life—but vets represent the most common cause from the trauma of combat. In this sense they are victims. And they should be given the treatment they desire.

That said, many eschew that help. You cannot force someone to get treatment and you cannot force someone to accept help—especially from the “people who did it to you to begin with.”

I work a lot of people who provide medical service on the streets in an urban environment. It is easy to judge, but it is more difficult to understand. It is easy to say, “No one wants to be homeless” when the reality is that a small percentage of our population doesn’t want the strings that come from being in the system. We used to call them hermits and hobos. Now they are homeless.

Its a reality that has been around since there have been armies and combat.

If you haven't yourself lived through ...
First of all, the last thing I need to do is define/explain my life's experiences to you or anyone else.
And to say that only people who have experienced something are the only ones who are qualified to comment about it is BS.
Nevertheless, I will say that I've "been there - done that."

‘’The Real McCoys’’ was perhaps the most moral-oriented TV program in history. Nearly every episode had a culturally uplifting message, consistent with Walter Brennan’s own views.

So, it is along the lines of a vaccine, intended to prevent illness, but with horrifying side effects.

What did they know, and when did they know it?

There's a difference between just commenting and degrading comments like "it's been 50 years take some responsibility". Degrading a person as irresponsible for conditions that may not be under their control covers that fine little line.

I notice a great change in the attitude toward us who are veterans. Maybe it is simply because such a small percentage now serve in the military. At the current rate a veteran may be very unusual in a few more years. It used to be that the vast majority of men I knew were veterans, now only a few are but I do have two vets next door to me, one my age and he was at Alameda Naval air station when I was across the bay on Treasure Island going to a Navy class “A” electronics school, the other is an Army vet who is 32.

Sometimes there isn’t a cure for a broken heart. For some reason this man was broken and not sure what happened but someone out there knows.

“Have you ever tried living with a drunk?”

I know your meaning, I grew up with an alcoholic father, basically a good man who worked hard and tried to do right but when he went on a bender it was as if Dr. Jekyll turned into Mr. Hyde. I still have not recovered from the psychological damage.
