One of the gravest and most damaging abuses of state power is to misuse surveillance authorities for political purposes. For that reason, The Intercept, from its inception, has focused extensively on these issues.
We therefore regard as inherently serious strident warnings from public officials alleging that the FBI and Department of Justice have abused their spying power for political purposes. Social media last night and today have been flooded with inflammatory and quite dramatic claims now being made by congressional Republicans about a four-page memo alleging abuses of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act spying processes during the 2016 election. This memo, which remains secret, was reportedly written under the direction of the chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, GOP Rep. Devin Nunes, and has been read by dozens of members of Congress after the committee voted to make the memo available to all members of the House of Representatives to examine in a room specially designated for reviewing classified material.
The rhetoric issuing from GOP members who read the memo is notably extreme. North Carolina Republican Rep. Mark Meadows, chair of the House Freedom Caucus, called the memo troubling and shocking and said, Part of me wishes that I didnt read it because I dont want to believe that those kinds of things could be happening in this country that I call home and love so much. GOP Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania stated: You think about, Is this happening in America or is this the KGB? Thats how alarming it is.
This has led to a ferocious outcry on the right to release the memo and presumably thereby prove that the Obama administration conducted unlawful surveillance

My guess is the GOPe will not go along with releasing the memo.... it will be a fight...
Sundance from the conservative treehouse said do not trust this article. He says he’ll explain why. I respect Sundance’s opinion, so I want to find out his reasons.
I’d save you all a bunch of time....
They are frauds....
Force a vote. Get everyone on record.
The GOP will do what it does best. Sell us out.
My guess is that Trump will hold the MEMO as hostage, bargaining with the Dems to get major concessions. I’m surprised Schumer doesn’t see this. Surely he’s aware of the landmine the Democrats face.
Huff Puff. Cry. Cave. Repeat as needed.
These people are too powerful to be prosecuted.
This is a political battle, not a legal one.
The memo, and it’s evidence need to be leaked right now.
Lol
Don’t sell our side short. We got Gorsuch on the Court, and our side will do what’s needed to destroy the Deep State...I have complete confidence in our non-leadership people. (and no, no LOL with that statement, these are good guys)
[Part of me wishes that I didnt read it because I dont want to believe that those kinds of things could be happening in this country” ]
Mr. Meadows it’s been painfully, painfully-obvious since at least 2008.
The Republicans have been frauds for decades.
They were frauds when they passed the Secure Fence Act in 2006 and quickly defunded it.
They were frauds when they refused to stop the Kenyanesian Usurpation and all of its myriad crimes.
They were frauds when they provided the Designated Losers to make sure the Kenyanesian Usurpation happened.
Because the Obama/Clinton/Boosh gang would all go down together.
There’s a reason they’ve tried to marginalize the President and keep hanging together. One would think several reasons.
These groups have co-opted they U.S. Gov’t - that’s why all this craziness occurs. You wouldn’t have seen these things 40 years ago.
Tin foil? Perhaps but too many “accidents”, “lost”, “missing”, “not investigated”, “whitewashed” - and they hate outsiders.
Step 1: Release the Nunes memo.
Step 2: Dems complain that the memo is nothing but misleading talking points authored by a self-serving Devin Nunes.
Step 3: Nunes asks House to release all currently classified documents that support his memo.
Step 4: Dems all vote against release of supporting docs.
Step 5: Supporting docs released anyway.
Step 6: Massive public outcry for the arrest and prosecution of Obama, Clinton, Jarrett, Comey, McCabe, Lynch, Rice, Powers, etc. etc. etc.
I read it on his twitter, makes sense.
When it becomes clear the Justice Roberts was blackmailed on Obama Care, does that mean he will be removed from the Supreme Court ?
The republicans in the committee voted to release it for House members to see, the democrats didn’t.
