An working paper by Dr. Mohammad Fazel Zarandi from the Yale School of Management, coauthored by two other Yale professors, estimates that there are 22.8 million illegal immigrants in the United States.
This is over double estimates compiled by the Department of Homeland Security, which claims 11.1 million illegal aliens live in the US.
The paper’s abstract outlines some of the reasons why their estimate is both higher, and better than the current government statistics:
We apply standard operational principles of inflows and outflows to estimate the number of undocumented immigrants in the United States, using the best available data, including some that has only recently become available. We generate a lower bound for the number of undocumented immigrants using conservative parameter values that underestimate inflows and overestimate outflows.
Our lower bound is close to 17 million, 50% higher than the most prominent current estimate of 11.3 million, which is based on survey data and thus different sources and methods. Standard parameter values generate an estimate of 22.8 million undocumented immigrants, twice as large as the current estimate.
Conservatives have argued for well over a decade that the number of illegal immigrants is widely underestimated by the government, and think tanks which base their calculations on government data—finally academics are beginning to take an independent look at the problem.
But the fact that the paper needed to be written at all highlights an insidious problem: we really don’t know how many illegal immigrants live in the US. With that in mind, I think it’s worth surveying the research on the topic—at the very least I’ll be able to give you some context for the broader debate.

I thought I heard 11M 30 years ago.
They have been using that 11 million figure for about 25 years.
If it’s 22 million, there’s got to be at least 22 million anchor babies too.
Those who have watched the illegal alien problem since the 1986 amnesty suspect that it’s much higher than that. Over 30 million.
23m is closer to the truth, but I suspect the true number is at least 30m

This can’t be true, I’ve been assured by our leaders and media for over 20 years that there are only 11 million.

Two questions:
1. When will Yale fire these these professors for telling the truth about the number of illegals in America?
2. How many of these illegals voted for Clinton and other rats in 2016?
The 11 million number has been around since the first days of the GWB administration when they were working on amnesty before 9/11 happened.
17 years later they expect us to believe that number has remained the same.
We’d be less concerned about illegal aliens voting for lawmakers if the states woke up and repealed the ill-conceived 17th Amendment.
Same remedy for misguided, low-information citizen voters.
The 16th Amendment can disappear too.

Nobody with a brain ever believed the 11 million number.
Wow. How was that guy able to count them all? I thought they were all living in the shadows?
So there is probably really forty to fifty million total illegal aliens.
There it is. The government who loves us says there are 11.5 million criminal alien invaders among us. WE KNOW THEY LIE!
The Yale leftists who despise us as a Nation, say there are about 23 million criminal alien invaders among us. WE KNOW THEY LIE!
Therefore, the truth must be a lot closer to there being about 45 million criminal alien invaders among us. WE KNOW THE NUMBER IS STILL INCREASING!
And that’s only half of it—the real number closer to 45.6 million.
